Evacuation

Brilliant idea to make a game about explosive decompression, in my opinion. Evacuation is a collaboration between Benzido (QWOP, Too Many Ninjas), the master of the one-screen Flash game, and programmer Ryan Chisholm. The goal in each of Evacuation’s 200 levels is to eject all of the man-eating aliens from the space shuttle by opening and closing the various colored cargo doors on the ship. Just be careful not to fling your own crew members into space! And there are a couple of other catches: 1. opening or closing a door will toggle other, similarly-colored doors open or closed, and 2. you must keep the captain and all officers alive or else you lose.

Because the levels are procedurally-generated the difficulty can feel slightly indeterministic. But like all of Benzido’s games, Evacuation is fast and fun and very addictive.

nice concept but the gameplay is just too random

This game is great. I’m hooked :)

    Argh. It crashed Firefox. :(

    Was fun up until then.

    This is fantastic :>

    I think I suck though. :<

Man, this game is crying out for a well thought out succession of ever trickier levels. I love procedurally-generated content but it’s all over the place here. Stick in 50 solid levels and then call the randomly-generated rest “bonus” levels or something.

This is great! I enjoy venting the aliens.

  10. AmnEn said about 8 hours later:

I enjoyed venting the humans more. They made funny noises when they were tossed out.

cute little puzzle game.. I think it would be better on a bigger scale ( not more rooms, but a bigger window size )

  12. Sparky said about 12 hours later:

I already said this on the forums, but I really like this game. Like mots said, a 2x or 3x version would be great!

  13. Bleagle said about 13 hours later:

I think too that the randomness isnt the best thing. Sometimes levels are generated which cant be solved without killing a person. And sometimes the entire crew stands in a room with an “Exit” and the three other doors have the same colour. Thats a situation which cant be solved…

  14. Uesugi said about 13 hours later:

Too many of the higher difficulty levels depend on luck when you’re using vaccuum to suck spacemen from compartment to compartment. Really annoying when you’ve got lots of officers and one flies faster/slower than the rest and is killed. :(

Haven’t tried it just yet, but I quite love the art style. Reminds me of UFO really…

  16. Thomas Dolby said 1 day later:

Love alot of things about this, but wish the dudes had a slight bit more intelligence, or perhaps there were a bit less randomness. It’s fun to play though, for sure. And I like it.

  17. Bleagle said 1 day later:

Hmm, funny i managed to kill all crew members except for the captain (had no other “high-ranks”)^^. And sometimes an alien flies like one minute around the ship after its sucked into space.

  18. Uesugi said 2 days later:

Yeah, you can go pretty far if you kill all the crew members except the captain and continually kill the new recruits before any can be promoted. Sometimes it’s hard to separate a group of them from the captain and you have to wait for them to walk to adjacent holds. And your score is based on how many people you save, so don’t count on getting a high score.

The randomness in the game is beyond frustrating. Sometimes on load a setup that can be won is immediately made unwinnable by an alien rushing through an open door to get at spacemen behind a door in the next room.

I’ve also seen the alien flying around the ship after being sucked out. It’s very amusing. At first I thought it was a bug.

Really lovely little game, this. Some little hiccups (aliens getting stuck in corners so they don’t get sucked into space) but overall a great concept and very nicely executed.
