Proof that if there’s a God, he’s laughing his ass off at us.

I think my brain gave up halfway through that and turned parts of itself off. I feel odd. Awaiting reboot.

  4. PHeMoX said about 2 hours later:

    Yeah.

Things like this raise interesting questions like: “Should mental institutions allow patients access to computers?”. :p

  5. Logie--bear said about 2 hours later:

    That was….. undescribable

  6. Stefano said about 2 hours later:

Is this game deliberately cheesy or a bunch of religious people (with no grasp whatsoever of what a good game is all about) just got together and had a “great idea” to keep our children from playing violent 3D shooters.

Any more background info on this one Derek? This one has caught my interest. In an awkward kind of way.

I mean there’s to much effort put into this to be just some sort of indie devs critique to commercial games…

  7. rz. said about 2 hours later:

i actually bought this immediately after watching the video. my life will never be the same.

“THE ZOO RACE Music Audio CD” I wonder if I can download this on torrent

  9. Farbs said about 3 hours later:

Let’s make this a compo theme! Push an obscure or fictional religion in a super lame video game.

  10. Smithy said about 3 hours later:

    Oh god.

That’d be great! If there was a competition like that, I’d finally have motivation to start to learn programming!

    Bokonon Adventures!

  11. rndll said about 3 hours later:

Holy shit. I don’t know what is more disturbing - the video, or the fact that it looks like it might be a bit fun to play. runs and hides

    Wow. Nightmares tonight. Definitely.

  13. Lim-Dul said about 5 hours later:

Yes, I know the spam filter will eat my comment because of the link but apparently any moderator can accept it. I’ll kill you, Derek, if you don’t accept the comment! I’ll, I’ll… I’ll demand my money back for Aquaria! ;-)

  14. Javet said about 5 hours later:

I don’t think this is God’s doing. THIS VIDEO IS THE STRANGEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN! Gotta be from Hell.

  17. crackers said about 6 hours later:

Get with the times Derek, the Zoo Race is old news.

  18. Joseph said about 6 hours later:

I thought this was a Second Life machinima for some reason… This is actually a game and its supposed to support religious beliefs? It seems more like a mockery of religion (which was hilarious).

  19. Joseph said about 6 hours later:

Damn I had to watch it again just for that bitchin song!

  20. Movius said about 6 hours later:

They should replace the contents of the bible with the zoo race, then it would make more sense.

    AMIRITE!?

  21. Constantine said about 6 hours later:

I think you’re all missing that the pig has a top hat. That is why computers were created.

  22. Cube said about 7 hours later:

After the race, Hannah asked the Lord about the crows. “Lord? She asked, “Why were the crows on the moon?” “Crows don’t normally live on the moon, right?” Then the Lord God spoke to Hannah the Horse. “HANNAH, said the Lord. I PUT THE CROWS ON THE MOON. DO NOT BE MAD AT THE CROWS, FOR THEY ARE ONLY A SYMBOL OF THE TRIALS AND TESTINGS THAT OCCUR IN YOUR REAL LIFE. YOU MUST OVERCOME ALL THE OBSTACLES THAT LIFE MAY BRING YOUR WAY AND ALSO TRUST IN ME THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY AND YOU WILL BE A BLESSED CREATURE.

And that is exactly what Hannah the Horse did. She trusted and praised the Lord all the days of her life. One more thing Lord, Hannah prayed aloud. Now that the race is finished and we are standing here on the moon, then how shall I get back down to earth again?

Then the Lord God spoke again to Hannah the Horse saying:

DIDN’T YOU SEE THAT’SPACE SHUTTLE THAT I PROVIDED FOR YOU UP ON THE MOON? COM’ON HANNAH! WAKE UP! SO, GET NOAH NOW AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND BOARD THE SPACE SHUTTLE AND BLAST OFF BACK TO THE EARTH, AND OH, ALSO, HAVE A HAPPY AND FUN JOURNEY.

“Yes Lord!” Hannah happily shouted and she quickly obeyed.

You couldn’t MAKE this shit up!

And yet they didn’t get a nomination. Truly, the IGF has lost all credibility.

  26. namuol said about 8 hours later:

Before the end of the video I was just like “This is too good to be true, I must be dreaming”

And then I heard “WOW! Is this a dream?!”

Now I’m just scared, tigersauce. :(

  27. Splinter of Chaos said about 9 hours later:

This is all so terrible. I’m writing my suicide note right now and making a few paragraphs about this.

It’s not that I’m suicidal, and frankly, I’m quite happy with life. But if I ever change my mind, I’ll open up “Because Coffins Are More Fun.doc” and read what I’ve written there and be reminded: “Oh yeah. There’s another reason.”

  34. Gordo said about 19 hours later:

I feel sorry for the guy who made this game. I mean, he put so much effort into it…

  35. mr said about 19 hours later:

Suddenly, the voice acting from Symphony of the Night doesn’t sound half bad in comparison…

  36. Bob said about 19 hours later:

What, the cougar doesn’t eat the pig?

Why can’t there be any good “Christian” games(I used quote marks because the only thing that’s Christian about them is the occasional cross here and there)? Like an RTS based on Old Testament wars, or an Oregon Trail-type game based on the Exodus? Those would be awesome.

  37. PHeMoX said about 20 hours later:

Funny thing about all this is that the guy who made this (goes by the name of Ran_Man by the way) is actually really a pretty cool guy.

His ideas about religion are way crazy, practically die-hard creationist-style all the way as you would expect from a ‘Christian game developer’ (?), but that’s part of what makes him funny. Aside from the crazy way he talks on forums. :) He’s pretty devoted to making games and puts lot’s of effort in them, but usually it turns out pretty crazy.

@rndll: “Holy shit. I don’t know what is more disturbing - the video, or the fact that it looks like it might be a bit fun to play. runs and hides”

Exactly my point of view on these games. The craziness actually makes it pretty funny. Most games aren’t very playable though, but still.

@Bob: I don’t think serious game developers will ever make such games simply because of the controversy involved and it would be labeled as propaganda instantly if the game is any good. I also think most game developers tend to be atheists, but that’s more a gut feeling.

  38. ZombiePixel said about 22 hours later:

Because programming requires logic and logic is atheist.

If Ruben is obsessing over Noah’s Ark and wants to race around the museum I don’t think “reading too many books” is his problem. I think Ruben ate a lot paint chips as a kid.

The horse rocket is made of pure win, though. No atheist could have thought that shit up.

  39. fartron said about 24 hours later:

Didn’t they do a Left Behind-esque, post -revelations RTS or RTT game? Pretty high budget if I recall.

  40. Bob said 1 day later:

    fartron

    Yes, and it was horrible.

  41. wourme said 1 day later:

“His ideas about religion are way crazy, practically die-hard creationist-style all the way …”

I could never decide whether the Zoo Race was sincere, mocking, or not really interested in making any sort of statement. That ambiguity is one thing that I really like about it–if it were preachy or mean-spirited, that could easily ruin it.

It’s been a while since I last watched this video, and I still think it’s brilliant.

  42. Wow said 1 day later:

Did we just take down Zoorace.com?

    TIG-ed.

  43. Lazer said 1 day later:
