IGF 2008 Entrants Announced!

igf 10

You can stop speculating, because the list of entrants for the upcoming IGF has been unveiled! And whoo boy, the competition is going to be fierce this year, guys and gals. There are a whopping 173 games battling for the 5 main prizes, which is around 30 or so more than this year’s. A cursory glance tells me that the quality of the games is generally very high. It’s a diverse group, too.

Many of the titles I had expected to see, many of them I recognize but didn’t realize were being entered, and many of them are comin’ straight outta left field. A good portion of the games entered this year are from TIGSource regulars, too. That’s great! I can’t wait to get my happy little digits on them and start playing.

Being able to participate in IGF is an amazing experience. I wish you all the best of luck!

i wonder, how does the judging process work?

do all the judges get to play all the 173 games right now? or do only some judges get to vote on those, and then everybody votes on the finalists?

because there’s a lot of judges and a lot of games. must be a logistic hell.

  2. fish said 37 minutes later:

also, who’s that cowboy dude that they use everywhere?

  3. Derek said about 1 hour later:

I guess the IGF’s not ready for an asian person next to their logo. Or a Canadian.

    slinks away

  4. Tim said about 2 hours later:

Didn’t you win his prize last year?

  5. fish said about 2 hours later:

  8. Petri Purho said about 3 hours later:

I think I know who that cowboy dude is. It’s the same mysterious cowboy that was in Lynch’s Mulhollan Dr.

  9. Andy said about 4 hours later:

I believe it’s one of the Three Rings guys who accepted an award for Bang! Howdy last year.

  16. robolee said about 6 hours later:

yeah cortex command was a surprise as the official website is down atm :( and the dev log didn’t get updated, however if you click on the igf link a new picture is up… new build?

  17. Nikica said about 6 hours later:

Lol, i am a port of the bad community there was an anouncment call Crunchtime Update, where he said that he maid the final, lol here read yourself:”Just a quick update on what’s going on in DRL HQ. We’re crunching both to make the IGF submission, and the first commercial version of CC. The full in-game Scene Editor is now feature complete and we’re using it ourselves to build the real story scenarios that will make up the meat of of the Cortex Command experience. After six years in the making, we can finally say that we’ve transitioned from pre-production into actual production on this project. ;D So, if you already enjoy the rickety skirmish mode of the test builds, you’re in for a treat. We are adding many times more content than you’ve seen so far. Environments, ships, guys, weapons, tools, game modes, cut scenes… oh my! The Scene Editor will be included with the full game, and since we’re using it ourselves to build the game (aka “eating our own dog food”), it is shaping up to be quite powerful and user friendly. Good things come to those who wait. Image to the left is purely fictitious fun.”

So we knew it, the site will be back up, I knew it I just said it because you would than pay attention to this wonderful game !!! LOL

  18. BMcC said about 7 hours later:

robolee: Yeah, they were crunching pretty hard for the deadline!

  19. colorFool said about 8 hours later:

BMcC, those are pretty much exactly the games that stroke me too - I guess it’s the TIGS influence that does it.. ;) But you definitely forgot Crayon Physics! Very cool to see it on IGF! Good luck Petri… and everyone else on that note!

  20. BMcC said about 8 hours later:

    Haha, cool.

What do you mean I forgot Crayon Physics! Petri is the man. 8)

  21. Karzon said about 9 hours later:

Hooray, now I know of even more games I want!

  22. moi said about 11 hours later:

Wow anything goes, There is a bit of everything there, from casual match3s to XBLA games to B-games to game maker ones. I only tried one game: Ironduke and it’s actually very nice, but the game bugged and froze the browser :( I’m going to try noitu love 2 after.

  23. PHeMoX said about 15 hours later:

From the more unknown games (at least to me) the one that struck me the most was Undertow. Seems really cool, great atmosphere and story too. At least that’s what the movies show so far.

Apart from that I pretty much already know that I like the games mentioned in BMcC’s list there. Cortex Command and Gish2 probably being my favorites at the moment.

  24. Paul said about 17 hours later:

Ah… So this is why I had so many hits on my website today!

  25. Nikica said about 19 hours later:

Yeah, Madhouse is really good !!!

  26. edenb said about 20 hours later:

Adds Glum Buster to BMcC’s list.

  27. colorFool said about 23 hours later:

Oops, my bad, completely overlooked it.. And now that I look again, Masq doesn’t ring a bell either… gotta check it out..

  28. Paul said 1 day later:

Thanks Nikica! I hope the judges like it, too :) Looks like there’s some really good entries! Best of luck to all!

  29. colorFool said 1 day later:

Arr, that perfidious Data! I bet their server move is done already and they’re waiting with the next newspost for the IGF to blast out all the cool features they have implemented. That makes me so bilious!
