<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tigsource/2111458862/" title="Blood <del>Over</del> by tigsource, on Flickr”>

Blood Over is a doujin side-scrolling game with mechanics similar to the Devil May Cry series (i.e. two guns, melee attacks, and combos). Plus there’s a girl in a maid outfit that follows you around, who you can occasionally order to blow everything away with a minigun.

Hardcore Gaming 101 has a more or less complete review which you might as well read, if you’re interested (see first link). The summary is that it’s nifty, but just okay. All I’ll add is that the demo only contains two levels and the main keys you use are Z, X, and C. You can download the demo on this page (second link down).

Check out Spyro The Dragon: Eternal Night for the GBA (NOT for any of the other systems). Its basically DMC in sidescrolling form…there’s a thread on the Penny Arcade forums where the developer talks about making it that way. Combo heavy gameplay and such

The depressing thing about this kind of game is that it’s so hard to buy the full version without getting gouged by some middle man. :(

That said, downloading the demo now, it looks awesome!

I liked it, it was exactly what I need right now. A nice, actiony, 2D sidescroller. I’m not some big combo lover, so I really didn’t find much flaw with the game.

Also, chaingun maid is a definite nominee for best thing ever.

It worked for me, but I can see why it wouldn’t for certain people. The file is compressed as a ZIP file, which is kind of a weird thing to do for a game that obviously would run better as an EXE.

Anyway, the game seems like it would be totally badass. But so far, no one has captured the badass nature of DMC in 2D form. This game is way too slow paced and repetitive. The combos are totally half-assed, and the controls are sluggish as hell.

This kind of upsets me. I wish someone would make a 2D side scrolling game that combines Viewtiful Joe and DMC. It would be totally amazing, but so far no one shows interest in it. And this game is a sad attempt to replicate it. It’s almost like they didn’t try….

Doesn’t work for me. Even after downloading the appropriate dll’s, it says I’m missing something.
