Just what you wanted to be for Halloween: a Civil War surgeon! Dark Cut² puts you behind the forceps of a newly instated battlefield medic, with a variety of grisly and primitive tools at your disposal. Think Trauma Center circa 1863 and you have the idea.

The presentation of the game is nice, with realistic, photo-based graphics to really bring out those wounds in all their pustulent glory. Being Flash-based, it does tend to wreak havoc on your system, though, so I hope you have a decent rig.

It’s a short game, with only four surgeries available. I’d love to see this as a full-length downloadable game!

Isn’t it a tad uninspiring that most every person you save will be owned by infections due to lack of good medicine?

God, people actually tried WINNING in life and death? I was like 8 at the time, so all I’d do is like put a person at a test and they’d be all like NO! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO NOT PUT THEM THROUGH THE CAT SCAN. FAIL. So I’d give up and put them through surgery right away and try drawing penises or my name in their abdomens.

Yeah, L&D2 especially was great. Brain surgery is one of the most tense and exciting things I’ve ever done in a game.

That’s a funny and simple game.
But good old Life and Death 1 & 2 are still the most complex and realistic surgery simulations. In L&D (1988, all-mouse interface!) it took me 50 tries to remove the appendix properly… And the second L&D was about brain surgery… mmm… Brain! There was also Virtual Surgeon: Open Heart but it runs very poorly on XP. But performing photorealistic aortic bypass is real fun.

fun game, people’s opinions on kongregate were mixed, some preferred the first one, with cartoony graphics, i think this one is really great but turning the sound off is helpful…. not that it’s bad but it’s one less thing to have to worry about..

also some of the tools are a little complex to use

Very interesting, great presentation. I think it would work better as a typical, downloadable game, Flash definitely has a hard time running it.
