Fold

A while back, I posted about a flash game called Manifold, in which you used bubbles to propel you in various directions to get past obstacles. The concept was great, and quite entertaining in its execution, but unfortunately, the game was just too damn short.

Well, here comes Fold, the full version of this game, which features the original 10 levels (Easy), as well as two new episodes (Uneasy and Doubleplus Uneasy)! The new episodes are really challenging, with Doubleplus Uneasy bordering on nigh impossible! Seriously, I don’t think it can be done! Either that, or I suck. But what are the chances of that?

Also added is a new time-based scoring system, which comes with the concept of “lives” and “game over.” Fortunately, once you run out of lives, you can opt to continue playing in a non-scoring “ghost mode.”

I found it fairly easyish to beat on my laptop, but pretty much impossible to do without losing all my lives within the first couple levels. Awesome game.

I liked the concept, but I couldn’t go further the 4th level, LOL. Darn difficult, but very innovative.

“The “pole vault” is actually pretty easy once you notice that you can simply jump over the chainsaw when walking on the wall :)”

Really? Oh lame. Now I gotta go try it. I was totally making that harder than it needed to be.

(Though its gonna be a bitch cuz all I got is a laptop touch pad currently)

Ha, also made it through all “Doubleplus Uneasy” level. The “pole vault” is actually pretty easy once you notice that you can simply jump over the chainsaw when walking on the wall :)

Oh and I guess you really have to walk on the walls in most levels by using the 2 anomalies, at least without that it got to be a whole lot harder. It’s just too bad there’s only one level in which you are able to use 3 anomalies :/

I’m sure you could do a whole lot more with this great concept. Just like Portal works great as a 3D game and there’s a simpler but still great 2D version of it (As mentioned on the forums - TIGSource article, anyone? :) ), maybe this could truly work as a 3D game.

Well, at least also Braid has this kind of “dynamic anomalies”, only that instead of the gravity they change the time flow :)

Sweet! did them all. its a bit easier if you have gotten used to the mechanics and physics and know lil tricks, like walking on walls and ceilings with 2 anomalys, which I dont recall them teaching you. Or like you can jump over a saw on the wall, or jump two saws next to each other by landing carefuly between them (mill level). I was using the walk on wall feature too much to- well i guess its not exploit the puzzles, but to use it to avoid the path I think they wanted you to use.
But still a great game, and great idea. Imagine a fps game like this, chuckin nades into anomolys round corners-no better yet bending your shots round corners or…something…

Ok screw that. Made it to Double Plus Uneasy level “Pole Vault.” I can launch myself over in about one in ten tries. But then I can’t act fast enough to retract the bottom grav bubble, and then throw a landing pad for myself (in line with my own trajectory) all while flying through the saw blades of death…

Like I said, screw that.

::one more try::

I don’t think it is or should be a requirement that editors finish games before posting them. These aren’t reviews after all.

“Doubleplus uneasy” is sooo totally Newspeak. Except there’s a space.

Anyway, interesting concept. I didn’t find it very fun, though.

Sweet game, very innovative.
I just dislike how it’s all about evading these chainsaws and gears in the “uneasy” and “doubleplus uneasy”, while I actually thought there might be more really interesting puzzles. Still it’s great to be able to just move in any way you want, on any wall you want and propel yourself anywhere you want :D
Well, I made it to the third level of the “doubleplus uneasy” episode I think, then I gave up. Too much trial and error I suppose :)
