I continue on my quest to play all of Ikiki’s games and chronicle them. With Bokusin (“Boxing”), I discover that not all of Ikki’s games are created equal. This two-player boxing game must be one of his earlier efforts. I give this one 1 Ikiki out of five, which is about 20 on William Usher’s rating scale.

Still, the title screen music is pretty awesome.

Direct download here.

I’ll track it down now, see if you can figure out what the hell you’re supposed to do. Graphics appear to be made in paint, don’t expect much.

Jared, if you could find that game, I’d be grateful! :)

Also, what Xander said.

It’s not that the ratings are different, it’s that they simply aren’t a reflection of the games’ quality. Hard Time for instance was admittedly fun, but unquestionably broken and unsellable as a complete product. Point being; William Usher reviews crap and gives it a good score. This does not make him a clever reviewer because he’s different, it makes him just a waste of a review column.

Well in that case I suppose it’s alright to poke fun at someones taste :D

Ikki hasn’t been updating that page very well. I found a game of his that involves defusing bombs (not worth trying) on the Vector homepage a few day ago. It was uploaded in April 2007. I wonder if he has anything Nikujinish that we don’t know about…

I don’t see why you dislike William Usher so much; it seems like he plays the games more than anyone else and then speaks his mind. Just because his ratings are different then the rest of the pack doesn’t mean he should be discounted as a reviewer.

Yup, there are a number of test-games or very simple concepts on Ikki’s page…
But teppodon is awesome. Ducking from snipers, jumping off explosive barrels, cutting throats.
BTW, check GameHippo - they have a number of reviews on ikki’s games. Even at the bottom of the main page list.
Tried to do search but something is messed up there.
