Oh and I should note that i usually dislike RTS games, the last one I enjoyed was Warhammer: Dark Omen way back in the day (And looking forward to Warhammer: Mark of Chaos as it looks similar) and it was totally different to this too…

I don’t work for IV, I run www.mod-hq.com (er, feel free to edit out the link if it’s against the rules) and I think Defcon is fantastic. It’s basically a simple RTS but it doesn’t feel like one. Sometimes it feels more like a turn based game or like a board diplomacy game. It’s really fantastic with a LOT of depth even though initially it appears very simple. I love it so much I bought a second copy and made a contest on my site for it :)

Well, to each his/her own. Actually, I think mushu is a great guy. Sure, he seems like a dick, but when you get to know him you’ll find he has 6 different moods. On the bus to work, I find myself planning ingenius ways to get into his pants. Whether he’s drunk or just passing out due to sheer laziness, I’m sure you’ll find lots “to do” with him.

In my humble opinion. :)

i think you could make the same argument about any of their games – they’re not great if you judge them based on “how fun is this to actually play”, but they create a feeling/mood/style really well.

personally i think uplink was pretty fun to play, and darwinia was pretty meh (cannon fodder was much more fun); so far i either suck at defcon, or it’s too random, or there’s too much going on at once, or all of the above.

i’d play dotfighter if i could download it (even the mirrors aren’t working for some reason).

Well, to each his own, Raiden.
Personally, the last few days when I’m on the subway or otherwise unoccupied, I find myself planning fleet compositions, naval strategies, placement of silos/radars/air bases for maximum coverage/protection against enemies/protection against allies.

And during games, I keep finding new ways to effectively combine bombers, subs and silos in coordinated strikes against enemy fortifications.

Plus, all the modifications one can make to a game brings in alot of variaton - just the three scoring modes “Standard”, “Genocide” and “Survivor” calls for different strategies.

All this, plus the element of 6 human players, all plotting and scheming to come out on top, and you have alot of “to do”.

In my humble opinion :)

Is it just me, or is there an element of “Emperor’s New Clothes” about Defcon? It certainly looks great and evokes a wondeful atmosphere, and judging by the number of people running multi-user servers, a LOT of people out there think it’s worth the money, but where is the game in it? There just seems to be very little to do here. Respect to Introversion for the way they’ve presented it, but looking beyond that I don’t see anything much to be interested in.

Defcon is pretty interesting, though it is obviously a multiplayer game between humans.

My textures are weird though, the text on the menus are all slightly blurry (due to some wierd hijinks with my computer)

Fun for all, though it makes you feel like a bit of a jerk.

just finished the Defcon tutorial, it seems pretty fun!

I wish the interface was a but less awkward, and the graphics were a bit “better” (the style is terrific, but if you compare the intro/mainmenu graphics with the in-game graphics, the in-game ones look much less futuristic and clean).

Also, am i the only one with a big pile of junk linesegs in the south pacific?

Um, okay. Has any actually managed to get DotFighters working?

The logos for the developer/products used and such appear, but then I get a series of ‘f^rkgeert.demo’ errors (my computer doesn’t have japanese language support, which could be the problem I guess) and then all I get is a blue arrow and an error or two everytime I push a button.

Guess I’ll just eagerly anticipate this game for a little longer
