An early beta of Balding’s Quest can be found in the TIGSource forums, demonstrating some of Guy’s athletic abilities. Press ‘1’ to switch rooms, and use the F2 function key to play in full screen mode.

So far, there WILL be a Linux version. :)

But the first build was only released for Windows. :(

I really hope there will be a way for me to play this on Ubuntu, as it looks INCREDIBLE so far… I haven’t gotten the first build to work with Wine yet, but maybe I will be able to hack it. Open source or Linux version please? :)

@Tim: Aw man, I was gonna make this post. :( You’re too fast for me!

@Everyone: Thanks so much for the encouragement! It’s a great motivator. I hope to knock your socks off with each successive build. (Feedback from this one has been put to use already, btw.)

Re: Controls –
I’m with Aubrey. Controls will be tweaked and improved as time goes on, but I don’t think movement keys and a jump button is confusing at all.

Re: Resolution –
We’ll have many resolutions, ratios, and scaling in the final version, fo sho.

Get in on the project if you haven’t yet, folks! It’s still early on.

Props’n’respect to BMcC and everyone else who contributes to this project. The animations and movements do feel very shmoof!

“Some suggestions: The controls are confusing. I believe the entire game can be played with the arrow buttons only. Jump can be combigned with climbing up for instance.”

You should say this in the thread, but personally I’d have to disagree, especially if you’re using analogue (or even a d-pad) on the 360 controller/other joypad.

Man, this is excellent. I’m really impressed with how many detail everyone managed to cram into the small tile/sprite size.

It’s fun walking and jumping around with the little guy. Plays great with my 360 controller (huzzah for automagic gamepad support!).

Very impressive game. Love the looks and animations, well done!

Some suggestions: The controls are confusing. I believe the entire game can be played with the arrow buttons only. Jump can be combigned with climbing up for instance. If you are hanging on a ledge, press down to fall or up to climb. Jumping onto a ladder can be with up only, that would seem more intuitive to me.

The first test level is filled with detail, but due to the resolution it also is confusing sometimes. Especially the half-transparant parts.

Small things to overcome. Other than that I’m really impressed. Excellent stuff!
