Previews: That Bloody Gushy Stuff

Posted by Derek Yu Tue, 22 Sep 2009 19:03:00 GMT

Some bloody good trailers:

Klei Entertainment (Eets) takes a step in a decidedly more brutal direction with its upcoming XBLA title Shank. I had a chance to try it at PAX, and it’s really fun. The controls are fluid and you can pull off some Desperado-like moves very easily.

Super Meat Boy was shown at a Nintendo press event in London recently, where it was met with acclaim. But honestly, you can’t say anything bad about two guys who look like this.

The cactusquid is having another fevered dream.

I realize there have been a lot of previews and trailers and expo stuff lately. But they are cool, no? Don’t worry, more great playable games are coming!

Posted by Brandon "BMcC" McCartin Sat, 08 Aug 2009 13:49:00 GMT

Just a quick little post—here’s a Super Meat Boy Nintendo Channel Featurette with Tommy and Edmund blabbing about the upcoming WiiWare title, which is promised to be “the most epic game ever, that ever will be.”

UPDATE: Another video I missed, featuring stills of the latest build as well as one of DannyB’s excellent tracks, after the jump!

In Development: No Quarter, Super Meat Boy

Posted by Brandon "BMcC" McCartin Thu, 19 Mar 2009 16:23:00 GMT

Here’s some footage of various prototypes and tests going into Cryptic Sea’s upcoming retro game “album” No Quarter. Lots of physicsy fun going on in there—I love watching those bobble-head Hitlers drop!

Semi-related: Edmund has posted the various iterations in visual style for his (and Tommy’s and Jon’s) upcoming WiiWare debut Super Meat Boy over its first month of development. Check it out if you find glimpses into the creative process as fascinating as I do.

This Is a Cry for Help

This Is a Cry for Help

Edmund McMillen (Gish, Tri-achnid, etc.) has just released a CD containing his life’s work – 10 years of uninhibited artistic creation, including games, comics, and art. And there’s a ton of extras, like special commentary and bonus content. It’s a total steal at 10 bucks. (Hint: they’ll make great stocking stuffers, if you know what I mean lol!)

Really inspirational stuff. Here’s to 10 more years!

EDIT: And be sure to check out Edmund’s latest game, Grey Matter, which he developed with none other than Tommy Refenes (of Goo! fame).

Goo! Extended Preview Video

Posted by Brandon "BMcC" McCartin Sat, 20 Oct 2007 01:47:00 GMT

Oh boy, I’ve wanted to cover this one for ages! Perhaps you’ve seen it on the list of IGF entrants...

Goo! is a new and strange action/strategy game from PillowFort (previously Amorphous Games), which is actually TIGS regular Aubrey Hesselgren and Tommy Refenes (Bezzy and Tommunism on the forums, respectively). In Goo! you control an amorphous blob of goo trying to overwhelm and absorb opposing blobs of goo as they try and do the same to you.+ Actually, that’s just one of the many play modes planned for the finished game, but whatever. Watch the video.

Now, this video isn’t a trailer exactly—it’s more of a live demonstration. It shows off some of the modes, skins, procedural effects… and touches on many coming additions.
Check it out!

This is definitely something to keep an eye on. Show some love, people.

MAC USERS: If the above video is trouble, check out the version at PillowFort’s site.

SEXY UPDATE: Oops, nearly forgot—you can follow Goo!’s progress (and read up on its storied past) over at its development blog. Until the new PillowFort site goes up, that is!

+ Say that five times fast.
