Hey, all. Edmund McMillen just had gall bladder surgery a few hours ago and is recovering right now. He fell ill yesterday and went to the hospital early last morning. Thankfully, he is okay and will hopefully be able to go home soon.
Please send him your love and if you’ve ever wanted to give Ed a donation for all the fun and hijinks he’s given us, now would be the time! Unfortunately, a trip to the hospital means a bill, and Ed doesn’t have health insurance. You can donate via PayPal here. Also, here’s his Facebook if you want to write something to him on his Wall.
Get well soon, Edmund! We’re looking forward to Super Meat Boy and whatever games the surgery will inspire in you.
Klei Entertainment (Eets) takes a step in a decidedly more brutal direction with its upcoming XBLA title Shank. I had a chance to try it at PAX, and it’s really fun. The controls are fluid and you can pull off some Desperado-like moves very easily.
Super Meat Boy was shown at a Nintendo press event in London recently, where it was met with acclaim. But honestly, you can’t say anything bad about two guys who look like this.
I realize there have been a lot of previews and trailers and expo stuff lately. But they are cool, no? Don’t worry, more great playable games are coming!
It’s time to get fcuked! Time Fcuk, the puzzle-platformer from Edmund McMillen, William Good, and Justin Karpel (previously teased here), is out now on Newgrounds. I don’t want to spoil too much, so I’ll just say this: It’s very good! It’s got a slightly unsettling vibe to it, and a surprising amount of atmosphere, but the real treat is the gameplay. Throughout the game more and more ways to manipulate each screen are introduced, and by the end your brain will be tied in a knot. There’s quite a nice balance between logic and action here. Do give it a try!

Time Fkcu, a new game from Edmund McMillen, Justin Karpel, and William Good made for the Power of 3 event over at Newgrounds, is coming out September 1st. According to Edmund, "Time Cfuk is a game about stasis, it's a game about perspective and viewing both sides of the story from afar, it's a game about blocks, platforms, drinking, high school reunions and work time fun." He goes on to say, "Time KcuF is not an art game." Well, what is, anyway? Wait, don't answer that.

Just a quick little post—here’s a Super Meat Boy Nintendo Channel Featurette with Tommy and Edmund blabbing about the upcoming WiiWare title, which is promised to be “the most epic game ever, that ever will be.”
UPDATE: Another video I missed, featuring stills of the latest build as well as one of DannyB’s excellent tracks, after the jump!
Spewer is the latest release from Edmund McMillen, and in my opinion, his most mature… design-wise! Thematically, it’s a puzzle platform game about a lab animal that pukes and eats its own puke, which can easily serve as a metaphor for the way game designers are forced to consume and regurgitate each other’s ideas to get ahead, or how players are simply animals subjected to cruel experiments created by game developers. Or maybe it’s just gross and funny. Either way, the mechanic is fresh and is stretched very well across the game’s 50-odd levels. Big props to the game’s programmer, Eli Piilonen, who did some impressive work with the physics. It handles great.
The game runs in a browser and is also available as a standalone executable and Flash file.

Here’s some footage of various prototypes and tests going into Cryptic Sea’s upcoming retro game “album” No Quarter. Lots of physicsy fun going on in there—I love watching those bobble-head Hitlers drop!
Semi-related: Edmund has posted the various iterations in visual style for his (and Tommy’s and Jon’s) upcoming WiiWare debut Super Meat Boy over its first month of development. Check it out if you find glimpses into the creative process as fascinating as I do.
David Rosen continues his tour with an oldie but goodie from Edmund McMillen: Gish! Although at his pace, it’s less of a tour and more of a rampage. This one’s real fun.
Speaking of Wolfire, if you want a free copy of Lugaru for Christmas, all you have to do is join the Overgrowth Facebook page.
Edmund McMillen (Gish, Tri-achnid, etc.) has just released a CD containing his life’s work – 10 years of uninhibited artistic creation, including games, comics, and art. And there’s a ton of extras, like special commentary and bonus content. It’s a total steal at 10 bucks. (Hint: they’ll make great stocking stuffers, if you know what I mean lol!)
Really inspirational stuff. Here’s to 10 more years!
EDIT: And be sure to check out Edmund’s latest game, Grey Matter, which he developed with none other than Tommy Refenes (of Goo! fame).
