Pixel's Upcoming Shooter

Posted by Tim Tue, 23 Jan 2007 18:21:00 GMT

Right, I was a little ambiguous when composing that last article – so here it is again. A collection of screenshots from Pixel’s shooter, which would normally disappear forever when it’s taken down from his desktop page. If I’m not mistaken, the collage above previews four out of the five stages to be found in his upcoming release.

Gives a good idea of what he’s been working on. Details about where to download the soundtrack to this shooter can be acquired from the other post.

And while we’re on the subject of games which uses very little colors…

Fuck Space

Posted by Tim Sat, 20 Jan 2007 17:34:00 GMT

space

That’s a bold statement if I ever saw one. The story?

You were on your honeymoon trip with your hot new wife, when a meteor struck her down. Enraged by sorrow you turn your car into a space ship and venture into space to get revenge on everything you can find.

It’s WTF territory, it is. Enter to start playing, arrow keys to move and Z to shoot stuff.

Rather amusing to see someone commented that Fuck Space gets a zero for originality on the GMC forums, filled with Mario platformer clones and shit.

More reviews over at the2bears and oddbob’s site.

Everyday Shooter Trailer

Posted by Tim Thu, 18 Jan 2007 17:38:00 GMT

EverydayShooter_2Still a secret and under wraps, the developer of Everyday Shooter has finally let out small bits and pieces from his upcoming abstract shooter in the shape of a preview video.

A serious IGF contender with three nominations, just one short of this year’s record set by Aquaria.

Terav

Posted by Albert Lai Mon, 15 Jan 2007 18:36:00 GMT

You know, for after my last post I thought I’d find a really good RPG to review on TIGSource. Oh, how I laughed and laughed and laughed.

But enough about my sometimes completely irrelevant bouts of laughter – I managed to find a really quite good side-scrolling shooter by the name of Terav – recently spotlighted by Game Maker Games for January.

Terav

In Terav you control a wee tyke tank that goes around blowing stuff up. "Gee Albert, great way to summarize the gameplay of virtually every game involving tanks in existence," I hear you saying. Okay, okay. The tank you control can easily move left and right (via AD), with a small jump available if you press (WS). The mouse controls the direction your tank fires.

The way the game handles weapons is really quite clever – you have a certain amount of weapon slots which you fill by collecting power-ups. Weapons you have eventually fade away so there’s no particular reason to skip over a upgrade – even if you manage to snag a powerful weapon combination, it’ll eventually degrade into the farce of a weapon that the game starts out with.

Overall, Terav is a really polished, rather addicting game. I give it Nice/8.8.

I probably should mention that this game is hard. There really isn’t much room for error, and it took me a lot of tries just to get past the first boss, and I haven’t even gotten past the second. Of course, I’m also the person that has only gotten to the third level of Gravitron, but that’s might be just me.

Stupid gravity-related deaths.

Happy New Year!

thedesignbig

Hi guys, I’m currently posting from another country but there will be little news from me for at least another month due to recent events and catastrophes. Anyway, here are two new shooters by cactus.

The Design is a 2D shooter with some unique quirks. You control two dots on a design, which can shoot at the angle from one to the other. New figures on the design appears and you earn points by removing them. This is what the shooting is for.

Note that the enemies can only be killed while they’re white. If you shoot an enemy while it’s red, the bullet will turn against you. Aside from the normal shooting, you also have three upgrades that’ll help you with getting a highscore.

Ad Nauseam is a surreal but relaxing vertical shmup that is loosely based on a trip to the dentist. Need I say more?

Gravitron

Posted by Tim Mon, 01 Jan 2007 02:16:00 GMT

ScreenShot2

Gravitron is a 2D vector game, very much like old games, Thrust, Gravitar and Oids. The game premise is to destroy all reactors for each sector. Collect fuel and rescue space-men, there is some interesting maps (30 total) to explore.

This game is best played with mouse-control, but other controls are available. Be sure to configure them to suit you.

Gravitron also comes with its editor – GravED. Feel free to submit maps to the author, if there is enough then new content packs might just be released.
