Not so much!
But here’s a shooting game Pixel helped create, along with some other Japanese guy who goes by “BA2.”
The game is called Die Die Galaxy and is actually quite fun! (Click the cat head at the bottom of the page to download.)
It’s kinda like Space Invaders, but instead of shooting aliens with lasers, you shoot alien cat heads with rockets. The game ends when you run out of rockets.
Left/right arrow keys to move, space bar to shoot and select.
My high score’s 61. It’s pretty challenging! Also, I suck.
BONUS NEWS! I mentioned this in a comment earlier, but Pixel’s last journal entry for October read, “My goal for November: finish the shooting game.”

Invisible Vision – a “submarine shootem up game in FPS”. I suppose that means I like FPS after all.
Well… reposting works for GoP. Direct download link. Double click on iv.exe to begin.
(Press the up arrow key to move forward and hold the Z key to fire a torpedo. Use the left and right arrow keys to turn.)

Retro is cool, and you know it. Even big name directors are getting into the game with Transformers and Speed Racer remakes.
Information about G-Force can be found over at bob’s site, and the2bears previewed it about a week ago.
Look forward to a release sometime next week.

Description:
Beast Invaders is a hack of Space Invaders. This hack was created by Jeff “Yak” Minter, who’s been creating games for various platforms since the early 80s and is probably best known in the Atari community for his work on the Atari Jaguar. Currently obsessed with giraffes.
What’s different:
Enemy sprites have been changed into cute, furry animals.
Beast Invaders 2:
Not Jet Set Willy Online. (DAMN!)

Meteor Busters is a fun little browser-based shooter by the mercenary pixel pushers known as dot-invasion. I like how you can switch between five different ships in the middle of the game, and I REALLY like that each ship has a different weapon that actually affects how you play (my favorite is the exploding darts). Couple this with great graphics and a simple, but effective, combo system, and you’ve got a winner in my book.

Joystiq reports on a video of Mutant Storm Empire in action. I was a fan of Mutant Storm and I like the direction this game is heading. The neon look of the original MS was cool, but I’m digging these “realistic” environs a lot more.

RED, by Armor Games, is a nice riff on missle-command style shooters. Its minimalist approach, coupled with its billiard-like projectile physics has pretty much devoured my break time at work and school. God forbid other classic games should be re-made with snazzy new physics, or I may give up sleep entirely.
Also snazzy music until, you know, the 50th time you play.

Gotta hit my quota!
Here’s an average little shmup called PixelShips Retro. You select a spaceship and fly around shooting other spaceships that don’t look like your spaceship.
Now, I was interested in this game at first. The developer was all like, “160 ships to collect! 80’s style original graphics and sound!” And the intro screen was pretty rad.
However… the game is rough around the edges. Real rough. That, and the developer decided to push it as heavily-crippled shareware. Disappointment!
So many indie developers complain about how few shareware games make real money, but look at how many are just simply unprofessional. My theory is, great games will sell. Will time prove me right?

To all shmup developers, if you’re encountering difficulties finding a site to host your game then this is the perfect solution. Shmup-Dev has revamped their Showcase Section which allows entry modifications, ratings and even a nice little download counter.
There’s more than a dozen freeware shmups to grab off the same page as well.
Don’t forget to participate in the Autofire 2007 Shooter Competition if you’re a developer, artist or musician. Three months left!

Yes, it’s that time of the year again – Shubun no hi, the Japanese Autumnal equinox Day. To celebrate this special occasion, I’m going to feature a game. A game “of the month”, if you will. And I use this phrase very loosely because it’s not so much an “award” as it is brownie points. Well, it’s more like pats on the head or giving a gold star to a well-deserved child or a three-dollar martini.
So without further ado, I’d like to present this three-dollar martini to Fren-ze, a vertical shooter with vivid, vibrant colours. It’s probably a bit too dazzling because my poor little blue fighter can’t seem to last 5 minutes. I blame my genetic code that lacks the SHMUP DNA that would otherwise let me do this.
