Behemoth, the company that made Alien Hominid (and was founded by Newgrounds creator Tom Fulp), has put up an official site for Castle Crashers, their second game. It’s a 4-player sidescrolling beat-em-up in a medieval setting. You could say that as Alien Hominid was to Metal Slug, Castle Crashers is to Knights of the Round. Or maybe Capcom’s D&D arcade games.
I had a chance to play the game briefly last year at San Diego Comicon and it was pretty fun (although buggy as hell at the time). I’m looking forward to playing it again at SDCC this year to see how things have progressed.
What do you guys think of the graphics? I’ve always like Dan Paladin’s work with Flash, but I was hoping that his console stuff would be a little more “polished.” To me, this still looks like a Flash game, albeit a very, VERY nice one.
EDIT: As far as I know, the game has been confirmed for XBox Live Arcade in 2007 but nowhere else right now.

Bug-crushing, polishing, what’s next, and a really cool video of some of the special effects from the “ghost-hacking” portion of Mr. Robot. All this and more in the latest development diary from our friends at Moonpod!

Cortex Command is what I would call a “hidden gem.” Or at least a potential one, since it’s not finished yet. BUT, the creators have recently committed themselves to working fulltime on it, so things are lookin’ up!
Think Liero meets Soldat meets some other stuff. There’s a basic demo of the game available (see the devlog) that lets you play two players splitscreen. Movement is fairly rough, but it’s impressive (and quite fun) to see the characters walk, crawl, and blow up using ragdoll-style physics. Support the development of this game!
Graphics are by the inimitable Niklas Jansson (aka Prometheus), of whom I am a huge fan.

I’m a bit of an old-school CRPG hag (which is plain to see from the sour look on my face when the subject of real-time combat comes up.)
That’s why the announcement of Basilisk Games’ upcoming first release, Eschelon: Book One has me all hot and bothered. This promises to be a real, honest to god, turn-based, single player CRPG. (And indie at that.) Not that I don’t love Spiderweb Software games, but it’s about time for some new kids on this block.
The original release was scheduled for sometime this summer, but has been pushed back indefinitely:
“It is also impossible to accurately determine when we will be finished with it, so we have decided not to toss out another release date until we know we can adhere to it.”
Here’s hoping that extra development time pays off in the form of a juicy new time sink.

i’ve already mentioned dot fighters, the latest project of ArmJoe developer takase. well, the official site just launched, featuring lots of screenshots and a new video.
i’m excited about this one, not just because of its pretty pixels but also because of its seeming minimalism: every fighting game archetype compressed into four characters, not including the boss (whom you may catch a glimpse of if you watch that most recent video). i’m curious to see how this game turns out!

Small Arms is another up-and-coming XBLA game, by the fine folks who brought you Fuzzee Fever. Yeah, no, I haven’t played Fuzzee Fever either. That’s got to be one of the worst names for a game, ever. It’s just so… gamey. And not in the good way, like “Contra” or “Donkey Kong.”
Anyway, it looks to be kind of a cross between Metal Slug and Super Smash Bros., which is a pretty good idea. A dozen or so characters, a dozen or so levels, and probably a dozen or so weapons… I could have some fun with a game like this.

Pom Pom, the creators of Mutant Storm for PC and XBox Live Arcade, are apparently working on an XBLA-only (fuck!) sequel to MS called Mutant Storm Empire. Graphically, it looks like kind of a cross between MS and their first game, Space Tripper. I like the look of the less abstract environs and enemies.

Moonpod’s got another development diary up. This one is about the special effects in Mr. Robot and also storing data in games using XML. No sign of War Angels for a while… what’s going on with it?
