Joystiq reports on a video of Mutant Storm Empire in action. I was a fan of Mutant Storm and I like the direction this game is heading. The neon look of the original MS was cool, but I’m digging these “realistic” environs a lot more.

Limbo is a game that people have been talking about recently, although I hesitate to call it a game yet, since my impression right now is that it’s nothing more than an idea and some beautiful conceptual artwork. The trailer just doesn’t look like in-game footage. Although it would be awesome if it was!
Word on the street is that Arnt Jensen, the game’s creator, has a grant from the Danish government to work on the game and is currently seeking a C/C++ programmer. What either of those facts says about the status of game’s development is a mystery to everyone.

Pretty. (pixels, cool. 3D, usually shit)
Into the Eagle’s Nest will probably be out next month. Don’t die from holding your breath waiting for it’s release.
Update: Sorry, it’s before Christmas. (as corrected by the author)

When the God of Indie Games Journalism requests something, you give it to him, by himiny!
Here’s a little teaser video that shows off some of the gameplay in the first part of Aquaria. Some of you were wondering how things move ingame. Hopefully this will convince you that it’s pretty fluid (har har)!
We mention on the game’s site that we’re using voicework in lieu of text-based dialogue (which you have to sit and click through). You’ll hear some of that in there, also. The actress is Jenna Sharpe, and the work she’s done for Aquaria is fantastic.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this little glimpse at the game (still in progress)! As we get closer to our expected release date, you can expect a lot more media and info.

So far only a couple of screenshots were posted for Aquaria. Perhaps we can coax Derek to post a boss screen capture, one creature design or two, maybe even a short gameplay video while we wait for the highly anticipated spring release? (hint, hint)
I’m actually quite tempted to add a new category entitled Aquaria.
On another note, is someone working on a translation for La-Mulana yet? It’s been getting a lot of rave reviews though the game is pretty hard for non-Japanese speakers.. (La-Mulana download link)

Hey, guys! It’s me, Derek Yu. Me and my friend Alec are working on a computer game and it’s in IGF. I figured I might as well be the first to tell you about it.
I’ve already written long descriptions of the game twice today, once for the official site and once on my personal blog, so you get the cliff’s here: sprawling, non-linear action/adventure game set in an underwater fantasy world. For more info and screenshots, hit up either of the links above.
This is my first foray into the world of shareware. Whereas my previous efforts have been all gratis, I’ve finally bit the bullet and am going to try and make a living making games! I hope you guys will enjoy it.
Whew, I’ve been keeping this secret for quite a while now. Feels good to finally let it out!
EDIT: It says on the site, but just to make it clear, we’re planning on releasing the game in Spring.

Sam & Max… god, what an awesome game that was. I’m excited that Telltale Games is bringing these characters back from the grave. I think the jump to 3D is alright, too. I’m not excited by the fact that it’s episodic.
You’ll be able to testdrive the first episode via GameTap on October 17th and then purchase the full game from Telltale on November 1st. Click here for the official announcement and links to some gameplay videos.
The voices for Sam & Max seem a bit off, don’t you think? Maybe I’m just too used to the ones from the original.

Joystiq has some reportage going on about Castle Crashers, the new XBox 360 (and maybe PS3?) beat-em-up by Behemoth.
The game definitely looks like some oldschool fun, and I was heartened when I saw the first demo at San Diego Comicon a couple years back and talked to Tom Fulp a bit about it. Tom was like, “did you catch the reference at the beginning of the game?” (He was referring to the opening cutscene where the evil dark knight walks up to the princess, punches her in the stomach, and then carries her off on his shoulder.) And I was like, “Yeah, man! Double Dragon!”
And then we both looked into each other’s eyes and I swear to god, we were about to kiss, but then we both quickly turned away and I awkwardly stumbled off, mumbling something about “going to check out some booth babes.”
It’s the kind of thing that probably happens at fraternity houses all the time.

Argh, I totally forgot to do a post about Moonpod’s development diary for last month. Anyhoo…
The Moonpod team is still working hard on Mr. Robot, their isometric platform game. August and September was about bots, boxes, and bugs, with a dash of ghost hacking for good measure. The end is nigh?
Hope all the Yanks are enjoying their Labor Day. I had to spend it sleeping and working… boo hoo fucking hoo hoo.

Hi there, I’m one of the slew of new writers here. Derek, desperate to establish a female narrative in the male-centred world of gaming, knew that he must find another authentic “girl gamer” to fulfill this task, grovelled and begged until I agreed to write for TIGSource.
The first order of business would be this game I found while reading IGDA’s Sex & Games news source. It’s
called VirtualHottie2 (NSFW). I had some trouble categorizing this one, as I am new (any constructive criticisms or comments for the newbie would be appreciated!). Anyway, I just could not figure out whether it belongs in “Adventure” or “Shooters?”
So this piece really is not just another reaffirmation of how well sex sells, it will revolutionize the way beer-guzzling is animated. You can enjoy the “stunning detail and 3d animation” here.
Also, Clickable Culture gives a stellar example of their stunning artwork.
I read somewhere that these types of games don’t usually succeed because gamers condemn the terrible gameplay and apparently everyone else is too shocked at the content to buy such a game. But the first game must have been extraordinarily orgasmic for them to make a sequel.
