About a month ago 4cr made a post about an indie game demo called Twinsen, which I guess is based on the Little Big Adventure games. The screenshot looked wonderful and everyone seemed to be drooling over the game, so I eagerly downloaded it.
I was immediately impressed. The title and credits were sharp, and although the story was pretty weak, it quickly moved on to the game, which was beautiful. I mean, real excellent art direction and effects while still maintaining the whole hand-pixelated feel. I thought to myself, I’m in for a treat.
Well, all good things must come to an end, as they say. The gameplay… was pretty rough. Clunky movement that made platforming particularly painful along with vague combat and a general aimlessness smothered any enjoyment I might have had.
But I’ll say it again—the art and art direction is excellent. Which is good, as the game’s artist is up for hire.
Check the demo out for yourself if you’d like.
EDIT: An updated version of the demo, including an additional level, is due very soon. Check this thread for more info. (Thanks Ithamore!)

Bernie of FA Fame announced today (okay, yesterday) that he will release not one, but two freeware games this year. The first being Darkside Adventures, which you already know about, and the second being Reactor 09, a graphic adventure with probably very amusing dialog. Or it might be serious, I dunno. Looks sharp, either way!
Hm. I just realized that maybe we haven’t posted about Darkside Adventures.

Well then! Darkside Adventures is a SMB2-inspired platformer that looks to be extra groovy. According to the site, its “defining features” are:
- Running up walls
- Shooting stars
- Blue guy in pajamas
- Stars!!
So there you have it.

They Came From Hollywood is an RTS-style game in development by Octopus Motor (first game of a… studio? composed of two people) where you’re in control of a giant monster (selection of twelve).
Umm… yeah, it’s also been in development for 5 years because the developers probably don’t know when to quit.
Well, I think this video is a good enough example of how awesome the game looks (YouTube quality):

We can’t talk about politics. Can’t talk about shmups either. No swearing. Can’t bash DEFCON or Blast Miner. Or GT. Bad mouthing FPS is not allowed.
So what are we supposed to discuss then? Damn, posting on TIGSource is practically an adventure in a mine field, considering the censorship request from all parties.
Even Aquaria is off limits. Well, too bad. Here’s an interview with two blokes who gave birth to Aquaria.
Note to the single anonymous poster/spambot. You don’t like hearing about it, fine. Cover your ears with your hands or something. This is still the same old TIGSource, and people want to read about independent gaming news.
You’ll probably notice two things from the article.
- Aquaria will have Xbox 360 controller and keyboard support, and
- Derek did not emerge from the egg of a phoenix.

Retro is cool, and you know it. Even big name directors are getting into the game with Transformers and Speed Racer remakes.
Information about G-Force can be found over at bob’s site, and the2bears previewed it about a week ago.
Look forward to a release sometime next week.

Zombie Smash is an action-game-in-the-making by Eric Vaughn, a guy who is notorious for starting awesome projects and never finishing them. So yeah, to say I’m skeptical about this one would be an understatement. But oh! If he did finish it, that’d be great, because he’s a superb pixel artist and his stuff that I’ve managed to play has been really fun.
I’ll add him to the active development list and see if maybe that won’t help him finish this one.
Are there any other good Halloweenie-type games worth mentioning right now?

Apparently, Pom Pom (aka, the Mutant Storm guys) are developing a casual game for Codemasters called Bliss Island (link to video). It looks kind of like Mario Party, except starring those things from Chuzzle. Which always looked to me like the Fryguys from old McDonald’s ads. Which begs the question: why do people think that large hairy things with big googly eyes are appealing to people? As a kid, those Fryguys scared the shit out of me.
