Do I need to say much about Grassman7z7’s two player mod for Death Worm to convince you that it’s awesome? Worm one is controlled with the arrow keys, and worm two with WASD. There’s also an added “sonar mode” option which allows you to detect movement above ground. The game ends when BOTH worms are killed, and the cumulative score is ranked.
One thing I wish they’d show was how much meat each worm had separately consumed, and perhaps rank those separately. It’d add some fun competition to the whole thing. But otherwise, this is great fun, even with one player controlling both worms! “NOM NOM NOM!”
EDIT: By the way, the mod is a stand-alone executable that does not require the original to play. And you still have the option to play with just a single worm (LOL).

Michal Marcinkowski, Sigvatr (aka Eric Vaughn), and Hamish McLeod have teamed up with two other talented artists to form Transhuman Design. You might recall that MM and Sigvatr were already collaborating on Link Dead, a spiritual sequel of sorts to the ever-popular Soldat. Now they are planning a new online game that will use the Link Dead engine:
The game is called
Berserker and it is about killing… bare hands and blunt weapon plain raw killing. On the website you can check the main game outline and a video of Sigvatr doing some vocal recordings of the game. I think you can get a feel of the game from there.
MM is saying the game will be much simpler than Link Dead and will be released before the latter as a test of the new engine.
I have to say, with the amount of indie strength on board, I have high hopes for this one. And I do enjoy a bit of the ultra-violence now and again.
(Thanks to BMcC, Terry, Tim, Xander, and ithamore for keeping things going while I was away. It’s good to be back!)

Javet has started a very awesome Freeware Game of the day thread which I will in the future steal less liberally from. I figured I’d draw attention to it here because A) Javet is some kind of one man freeware archive, B) his freeware list is already filled with some fantastic games and C) our forums are awesome, and if you haven’t joined us there yet, then you really should.
The game I couldn’t resist posting about today is Mr. Blocko – Super Tournament Edition which actually is probably closer to a ‘Super Puzzle Fighter’ than Capcom’s own. As Javet puts it;
A mix of Driller and Tetris, all combined into a multiplayer/customizable/extremely fun game.
Is there much else to say about it? Honestly not really. Tetris blocks fall from the sky, and you and your friends/rivals have to shunt them about the place in order to create Tetris lines for points. At the same time of course you have to fight it out between each other by either clever manipulation of your surroundings, or through the less clever but more Yahtzee-approved method of what is commonly referred to as ‘a good old fashioned head-stomping’.
To me it’s a great game, but you may hate it. Which is fine, because the game is so entirely customisable that you can change an almost infinitesimal amount of the game. Double Jumps? Pssh, Octuple Rocket Jumps! Feel too much of a blockhead? Pile on the ninja gear or stuff a hominids skull-cap on your unsightly physique.
Massively customisable, hysterical multiplayer fun. And as such we learn that Javet is entirely indispensable, so despite living in the UK I’ll damn sure give thanks for that. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Now pass the TIGERSauce please…

Tomorrow is game night again! I am not prepared.

Pictured above.
Not prepared at all.
I certainly hope you’re more prepared.
We’re gonna be playing:
Gusanos (with 1.01b of Promode, I guess), Soldat, and for the folks who don’k like action, Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe (I would make a joke using the word actionsexual, but that implies the exact opposite of what I want)!
OpenTTD requires some files which cannot be distributed with the game due to questionable legality, but worry not, tomorrow I’ll find a way to get it to the people in IRC.
BE THERE OR BE SLIGHTLY LESS COOL THEN YOUR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL!
(Pictured is Gusanos Turner mod, which introduces new shader technology to the game. No public release yet!)

I don’t quite know how it works yet, but you can now build your own bunker in Cortex Command.

Toribash 3.0: real-time shader effects, reflections, and motion blur are just some of many improvements planned for the next release. Holy hot damn, this looks good.
Those with crappy video cards can always opt for the original look.
High-res trailers: Windows Media Player, Quicktime

I continue on my quest to play all of Ikiki’s games and chronicle them. With Bokusin (“Boxing”), I discover that not all of Ikki’s games are created equal. This two-player boxing game must be one of his earlier efforts. I give this one 1 Ikiki out of five, which is about 20 on William Usher’s rating scale.
Still, the title screen music is pretty awesome.
Direct download here.

Data, who it must be said is a god amongst men, both in physical stature and programming prowess, has finally released a new build of Cortex Command, and it’s a doozy. New to this build are improved AI, collision detection, physics, and control over your teammates (among other things). The game is really starting to come of age, and I think in 15 minutes of playtime I had about as many “holy shit” type moments.
There’s still a bit of stickiness to the walking / general movement, but it feels vastly improved from the last time I played (which was a couple builds ago).
Damn it feels good to (be a gangster) shoot a skeleton with a long rifle in midair as it’s falling from a dropship…
