Defcon

Siliconera has an interview with Chris DeLay on Defcon, Steam, and making it independent. And what it’s like to have a very, very large penis.

I, Mario

Posted by BMcC Mon, 23 Oct 2006 11:20:00 GMT

I, Mario concept art.

Real quick—GameSetWatch brought this to my attention, and I think it’s pretty darn cool. (At least on paper.)

I, Mario is a community driven, brutally realistic re-imagining of the Super Mario universe that was sparked by a hypothetical writeup on the OC ReMix boards by interesting and probably Irish guy Shael Riley.

Check out the I, Mario Wiki and the Official I, Mario Forum for thought provoking concept art, discussion, and an ever growing design. Don’t hesitate to get involved if you have something to add! I’d love to see this project go all the way, though there are numerous potential roadblocks on the horizon.

There’s an interview with Shael over at GSW that does a better job explaining things just begging to be read.

Digest and discuss!

EDIT: Upon digging deeper into the wiki and forum, I’ve found just as much misguided, fan-fictiony garbage as cool, thought-provoking concepts. But it’s still early on, yeah?

Interview: Lexaloffle

Swarm Racer

GameSetWatch has an interview with Joseph White of Lexaloffle. It’s a fairly low-key interview with not too many surprises. Except for the part where Joseph goes nuts and hurls a chair at the interviewer’s head. BOTH OF THEM.

Small Arms

Small Arms is another up-and-coming XBLA game, by the fine folks who brought you Fuzzee Fever. Yeah, no, I haven’t played Fuzzee Fever either. That’s got to be one of the worst names for a game, ever. It’s just so… gamey. And not in the good way, like “Contra” or “Donkey Kong.”

Anyway, it looks to be kind of a cross between Metal Slug and Super Smash Bros., which is a pretty good idea. A dozen or so characters, a dozen or so levels, and probably a dozen or so weapons… I could have some fun with a game like this.

little mathletics interviews hikoza

warning forever

alistair wallis of little mathletics (who has previously interviewed tigsource darling kenta cho) has just put online an interview with hizoka t ohkubo, the developer of boss-only doujin shooter warning forever.

hizoka tells little mathletics that his favorite game is gunstar heroes: “Playing this game was when I thought I would like to become a game programmer. The movement of the characters and production of the game is brilliant, which makes you realise that the programmers must have had a great technical knowledge of the Mega Drive . The enormous bosses amazed me – they looked like living things as they ran about.”

he also reveals that his next release will be a 3D action game – hopefully finished sometime this year.
