I’ll just copy the Retro Remakes post for this one.
Well the waiting is finally over… Ovine have released their latest game (their second FreeScape remake) which is non other than Driller. The game came out on a myriad of formats (ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, IBM PC) so if you haven’t heard of it then you must have been living in a dark and damp cave for the last couple of decades.
I just learnt something new about the original too… According to wikipedia it was called Space Station Oblivion on it’s US release. Fancy that! If you ask me it doesn’t have quite the same succinct ring to it, but hey oh.
Why on Mitral are you reading this waffle anyway? A lot of you have been chewing at the bit and foaming at the mouth waiting to get hold of it, so go download it already! – Caff
Should be an item of interest to Cholo fans or anyone who has fond memories of the original.

No Cave Story 2. Well, that’s done.
Pixel recently acquired a nice little scanner for himself and has been posting random sketches done on a frequent basis. The desktop page showcases the latest creations and sneak peeks, so if you have a big boner for Pixel (looking at you, DDerek) then I assume that it already has a permanent bookmark spot in your internet browser.
A soundtrack preview from his new game can be downloaded from this page by clicking on the first link. Shine-Shine Galaxy was previously mentioned here. The translated version of Ikachan also has a nice little page now.

In A Cure for the Common Cold, you assume the role of Derek the starving artist – who is on the verge of completing his magnum opus and submitting it to a major competition. Unfortunately the illness is draining all of his creativity, and he can feel the award for “Most Underwater Rocks Drawn” slipping from his grasp real quick. Can you find the cure soon enough to salvage the situation?
Well, not too certain about some parts of the description but I think that’s how the story goes. Basically it’s a short freeware AGS adventure game which shouldn’t take more than an hour to complete.
Marina “MashPotato” Siu-Chong is also working on The Hatmaker’s Tale for about half a year now. And The Arsecast Host said that female developers don’t exist… (heh)

That’s a bold statement if I ever saw one. The story?
You were on your honeymoon trip with your hot new wife, when a meteor struck her down. Enraged by sorrow you turn your car into a space ship and venture into space to get revenge on everything you can find.
It’s WTF territory, it is. Enter to start playing, arrow keys to move and Z to shoot stuff.
Rather amusing to see someone commented that Fuck Space gets a zero for originality on the GMC forums, filled with Mario platformer clones and shit.
More reviews over at the2bears and oddbob’s site.

According to Retro Remakes, Gravitron was recently updated with deathmatch online play. Don’t forget to activate mouse controls by accessing the menu (ESC) and pressing the tab key. Use F1 to chat and F2 to view stats.
The single-player campaign still works perfectly in this version, so there’s backup if you can’t find anyone to play with online.
Previously mentioned here.

You can download Rider here.
Quoting dess:
it’s a motorcycle sim where you try to get your package to its destination on time without breaking any traffic laws (when cops are watching). reminds me of tokyo bus guide, but better since it involves motorcycles (and you don’t have to observe crazy bus codes). it’s a pretty nice chillout game. videogame sunsets!
There are some crazy rides to unlock if you play long enough.
EDIT: Options on the main menu, from left to right, are: records (for this playthrough), options, play and quit.

Well, it was only a matter of time before someone made a game for the PC that’s compatible with the hacked Wii-Mote. Colocoro is such a game, and like lots of Wii games; it’s very simplistic, and quite a bit of fun.
The goal of each level is to deliver your ball to the blue exit. It all sounds fairly simple and easy, until you realize that you need to bump, rotate, and move the playfield. Warps and enemies also try to ruin your day.
I haven’t gotten a change to play with a Wii-Mote sadly, but from what I’ve been seeing, it works flawlessly and adds a lot of fun. At less than a 1 meg download, there’s really no reason not to give this fun little game a try, even if you don’t plan on hacking your Wii-Mote. (There’s mouse control too).

Ah, well it’s been a while since I’ve had the time to bring you anything. In fact, it’s been so long, it took me about 30 minutes to finally successfully log in to the site. I blame it on the TDC Xmas compo I’ve been judging (The compo that MGS: Secret Santa and many others were made for). But even with this big ole’ ball of mush in my skull, I’ve still managed to dig up a game or two for you.
The first one is a charming little game that goes by the name of Maze of Galious Remake, a remake of an older MSX/NES game. MoGR is my first contact with this game in any form, and it’s quite a bit of fun. The basic premise is that the big evil demon guy stole your little kid (You adventure as a Husband/Wife pair in this game), locked him up in a big maze, and brought all his goons out to mess up your day. The gameplay is best described as a mix of Zelda and Metroid with a bit of the old school NES styled flair. It’s addictive and fun; I highly recommend this game as it comes in Windows, Linux, and OSX flavors.
The last game I bring you is a standard THRUST style game. This one goes by the name of Super Transball 2, and is also made by Braingames. Pilot your ship through 15 levels of gravity defying fun while trying to avoid getting shot, as you hunt for the magic sphere of end level. I’m not quite sure how else to describe it, besides, you should be familiar with THRUST anyway. Thrust kicks ass.
Till next time…

Soundtrack to Darkside Adventures is now available for download.
The screenshot above looks awfully familiar… now, a question: are those ripped graphics or a tribute?

Not exactly the blockbuster (heh) platformer that everyone has been expecting, Mini01 is still a decent short game perfect for that coffee break during work.
Use the arrow keys to move the orange block around. The tail follows your movement, and it will destroy any white block that touches it. An online high score feature has been included, though some of the scores are rather unbelievable.
Shih Tzu mentions that Mini01 is to be the first of a monthly game series, so we can expect more from the developer of Akuji the Demon and Guardian of Paradise very soon.
It was an absolutely brilliant year for freeware platformers in 2006, hopefully we can expect this trend to blossom further this year.
