Blood Over is a doujin side-scrolling game with mechanics similar to the Devil May Cry series (i.e. two guns, melee attacks, and combos). Plus there’s a girl in a maid outfit that follows you around, who you can occasionally order to blow everything away with a minigun.
Hardcore Gaming 101 has a more or less complete review which you might as well read, if you’re interested (see first link). The summary is that it’s nifty, but just okay. All I’ll add is that the demo only contains two levels and the main keys you use are Z, X, and C. You can download the demo on this page (second link down).

Caltrops has a rundown on Touhou Project (aka Shrine Maiden Project), the series popular “bullet hell” shoot ‘em ups by Team Shanghai Alice (aka the mysterious Zun)! (So popular, in fact, that people apparently drop big bucks on arcade cabinets to play them in!)
Michief Maker, the author of the article, gives a brief overview of each of the games, which is accompanied by a YouTube video of the game in action. At the end he provides some info on how to obtain full versions of these games online.

With Bokorin, Ikiki goes back to the basics… the basics of being nude and kicking the crap out of other nude people! Press the Shift button to jump and Control to perform attacks. You can get combos either by knocking your opponents into each other, or by hitting them again and again before they hit the ground – I’m not really sure which.
This one’s pretty addicting for me, for some reason. I think it’s that loud “hit” sound effect that sounds like a cow being split in half with a metal baseball bat. That, and the exploding apple on the title screen.
My best score is 1848. Can you guys do any better?
EDIT: A-ha! You can hold down the ‘z’ button to slow time. Thanks, Benzido (Champion of All Things Naked and Naming)!

This game’s nothing too special. I don’t even know if it’s technically indie, either. I just wanted to draw your attention to the cartoon it’s based on, a series of shorts made for MTV Japan about two rabbits trapped in a Russian prison.
Hit the jump for the first episode.

Ikiki continues his theme of warfare with Rakkasan, a simple, single-screen platformer that has you shooting down soldiers that parachute in from the sky. Occasionally, a bomb is dropped at your location.
I was thinking, it would be nice if someone packaged all the games together and made a simple player for them. I might look into that once I’ve gone through the whole list!
Controls: Press A to crouch, Spacebar to jump, S and F to move, and use the mouse to aim; LMB to fire, RMB to reload.

Picked up Pineappo because I thought an Ikiki game about tropical fruit might be interesting… nope, it’s another overhead commando game!
The “pineappo,” in this case, must refer to the grenades you use in lieu of a gun (press “z”). You can also punch guards by pressing shift (very dangerous), or… perform an action which appears to be spitting (“x”). I think it’s meant to draw the guards’ attentions, but I’m not sure.
It’s fun to see how Ikiki’s designs develop from game to game. This one definitely feels like it comes somewhere between Tetuhau and Hakaiman, when you examine the mechanics involved, as well as the overall polish.
I feel like I just uncovered the missing link, or something.

IkikiWatch 2007 continues, thanks in no small part to pkt-zero, who provided me with a zip of all the games! Thanks, man!
This time I pulled out Tetuhau, which looks to be a precursor to Hakkaiman, which I really enjoyed. It is, as you can imagine, much more primitive all around, with a noticeable absence of neck-snapping! On the other hand, the cutscenes are pretty entertaining.
It’s extremely short!

Capstar II is a new browser-based game from NIGORO, the Japanese developer behind La Mulana and Rose and Camellia. In the game you control a cute lil’ space pod piloted by none other than “The Invincible Randy.” Unfortunately, your pod’s not so invincible, so as you go through each of the 16 stages, you’ll have to avoid banging into walls, or getting blown up by various traps.
The game controls much like Sub-Terrania (Sega Genesis) or Solar Jetman (NES), with the hitch being that gravity can pull on you from any of the cardinal directions. An entertaining and challenging game, as you would expect from this developer. The later levels are especially nasty.
Comes with online time rankings and 5 difficulty levels.

Here’s a rather obscure find! Look at the website, for Kenta’s sake. (Thanks a bunch, ags!)
Mad Energy is a top-down action game where the object is to get to the exit of each level (a glowing blue circle). This is made difficult by the usual complement of nasties, which include soldiers, automated turrets, and an assortment of weird beasties. The game is controlled entirely with the mouse (right-click to move).

Thankfully, you’ve got some mad energy on hand (although I like to think of it as that thing from the movie Krull). When you shoot it, it ricochets off walls, killing anything in its path. Left-click once to fire it, click again to stop it, and click once more to have it come back to you. You can collect power-ups to speed it up, or to give you “BOM,” which makes your mad energy explode when you stop it. BOMs can be carried from level to level.
Unfortunately, the energy is tied to your lifebar, so you can die if you have it out too long. On the flipside, taking damage from enemies means it becomes more dangerous to “shoot your mad energy,” as the kids say.
Short, but sweet. Mad sweet.
