"Game #3" In Action

Posted by Brandon "BMcC" McCartin Thu, 13 Aug 2009 03:40:00 GMT

The Behemoth, creators of indie hit Castle Crashers, have uploaded the first of hopefully many development videos of their next XBLA game, which they are still calling “Game #3.” The video shows that co-op, multiplayer action which I am down for. So down.

Most prominently featured is “Soul Mode” (again a tentative title), where each team must beat the souls out of the other team(s) and hold on to them as long as possible, racking up points over time. Customization is also talked about, with custom appearances and weapons promised for each player. Even this early on the gameplay and presentation look top notch. Keep watching The Behemoth’s dev blog for more tasty updates.

    Looking extra slick!

    Looks pretty boring…

If you can’t see the super fun game taking shape here, you may need LASIK.

it’s because you can’t hear the sound effects. I bet if you could hear the game you’d see the awesome. I have a super-good imagination though so I’m can hear the sound effects anyway even though I can’t hear them. I mean c’mon man the explosions are going KPOOM and when someone dies they make a funny sound and…yeah this looks fun.

If you can’t see that you guys are blinded by their earlier works then you may need LASIK. Seriously, it isn’t that impressive of a game (yet at least, though I am sure it will take shape sooner or later).

Alien Hominid was good and Castle Crashers were good, too bad this looks like a piece a shit.

This looks to be just what the doctor ordered. Some fine multiplayer platform action.

The more I see, the more it looks to me like Super Mario War. Although it looks as if it builds upon that dynamic.

I read that as “creators of indie shit”

This looks like the start of something pretty rad. I’m keeping an eye on it. I don’t really think the character customization is selling itself though, even though Dan(?) is pimping it… Needs more pizazz! (Or at least a few seconds of demonstration…)

  10. B said about 8 hours later:

Not feeling it. There seems to essentially be no innovations or hook. It’s just a generic mulitplayer platform game at the moment. Where’s the imagination present in their other games?

  11. falsion said about 11 hours later:

So it’s basically a game of chase the other guy? I dunno, they need to do something. Add a bit more oomph to it somehow.

  12. BMcC said about 12 hours later:

@d2king10: It’s true, my opinion is colored by their previous games, but I think that’s fair enough?

  13. Donny Dookie said about 15 hours later:

Call me stupid but, I think the characters -may- be placeholders and since the game doesn’t even have a name yet it’s super early.

So half of you may be retarded.

  14. EP said about 19 hours later:

    Looks like Jump n Bump

  15. Anthony Flack said about 22 hours later:

Innovation and imagination is lacking? I think you guys meant to say “where’s Dan’s pretty backgrounds?”

  16. d2king10 said 1 day later:

Anthony Flack: I think we mean both.

  17. Anon said 1 day later:

You guys act like that is the only mode there is…and with a year left, somehow I think Dan Paladin will have it looking pretty nice >_>. Call it a hunch…

  18. D2king10 said 1 day later:

Well, from the other videos all you do is collect something and run. One you run around and collect gold and run, and one you collect souls and run. Nothing too amazing right there.

As for the art, I am sure he will.
