GearToyGear is a new crazy-fast tunnel shooter from shmup deity Kenta Cho. The instructions are: “Avoid incoming bullets/lasers/obstacles and destroy enemies. Hold the right trigger to speed up and earn more score.” It might be prudent to add a seizure warning as well.
Download here. (Requires XNA Framework)

looks great
very cool, but i still prefer Kenta Cho shooters to his tunnel\torus games
@messhof: Totally. It looks super awesome, but I am SO bad at these types of games. :’(
Here’s the link for the required XNA 3.1 framework whatzit. Without it, the game just crashes. User experience++!

Random thoughts from five minutes of play:
The game is interesting. A bit hard to judge where things are, and definitely hard to process what’s going on when there’s a lot of action on the screen. The fact everything is a colored circle-like object doesn’t help much with that, but neither do the heat-seeking snake thingies that have a tendency to fly into the camera.
I like the sense of speed of it all, and it’s surprisingly satisfying to lock on to stuff with auto-fire, but it feels like it’s missing something. On a possibly related note, I was disappointed that you don’t seem to earn points for flying through rings.
One of the background music tracks has something acoustic sounding (strings?) and is rather unlike anything I’ve heard thus far in a Kenta Cho game. I like.
I’m not sure this game has the lasting power some previous titles have, partially for some of the reasons above, but particularly because it seems to set off my dizzy/nauseous trigger. I may just have a weak stomach; many first person shooters also do this.
As pretty as any of his games, but looks HARD.
Like the 80s Star Wars arcade game at 300mph.
why the fuck xna? WHY THE FUCK XNA?
