BOXGAME

My brain hurts.

Sophie “GirlFlash” Houlden has released a neat 3D, physics-bending platformer called BOXGAME. Each stage wraps around the sides of a cube, and as you jump between planes the direction of gravity changes, making for some interesting puzzle-platforming action. To be honest, the mechanics are still a little unclear to me. As I played I was often unsure as to why I landed on one platform and not another. But I may just be easily disoriented. Either way, it’s good fun!

It’s like Super Mario Galaxy with a healthy disdain for the player, and I mean that lovingly. A bit hard to grasp for sure.

I’m surprised this took so long to make its way here. Fun, if trying, game.

I just finished all stages. Ass soon as you know how the game works it is all very easy.

On level 15 now. This has some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen in a game, unfortunately they’re comprimised somewhat by rogue dark edges in the middle of some faces. Hopefully they’ll get fixed.

The game is pretty fun. Usually I don’t find puzzle platformers difficult to figure out but here I’m only able to intuit my way through, not consciously think. My only major complaint is that some of the points of no return in the levels are a bit pointless (no pun intended). It seems they could be designed without them.

I didn’t have too much trouble figuring out the mechanics, but the camera was a problem. On the last couple levels you can’t even see where the exit is most of the time, so it’s hard to plan your approach. Turns out you can hold the middle mouse button to view the whole level, but I didn’t find that out until finishing it largely through trial and error.

    Now you’re thinking with BOXES.

Seriously though, this held my attention long enough to beat all the levels, and that’s high praise for a browser game. An intriguing concept for sure.

This would make a great PSP game with a few more levels and obstacles. I played through the whole game and loved it. :D

Very well designed, though sometimes the platforming elements were really annoying.

Last level was a bitch and a half. Very tempting to use that red color pad when you don’t need to.

The hideousness of the graphics remind me of Suda15, and the compelling gameplay also.

    Good but a little easy.

    GOD FUCK JESUS FUCK.

Super frustrating until I figured it out (sort of).

Really interesting concept and compelling enough to have played through to the end, though, so I’d have to say I like it.

the running animation makes me feel like a ninja

I don’t know what’s wrong (or even if anything IS wrong) but when I try to play it takes a lot of effort to move the level selector back to 1 (it jumps to 15) then when I do play my character is constantly jumping to the right.
