Behemoth's New Game - Trailer!

Posted by Xander Tue, 17 Mar 2009 17:15:00 GMT

Gameplay footage of The Behemoth’s new game has finally been made available, and continuing my current trend of news posts I have absolutely no other details what so ever!

No concrete gameplay details! No announced platforms! No confirmed release date! Fun times…

Seriously though, from the trailer it appears to be a multi-player platformer, but there seems to be a multitude of gameplay types such as a two-player cooperative level and a competitive block colouring mode. Alongside that seem to be plenty of characters and power-ups, but again it seems like something we’ll have to wait a while for more footage or even to get our hands on before we really know what it’s really going to be about. All we have is a trailer, but damn if it’s not the most exciting 1’30” I’ve had in a while. Roll on 2010!

(News thanks to Destructoid, who just yesterday celebrated their 3rd Birthday, so congratulations!)

The epic cutscenes had me cracking up, especially in the beginning when it zooms out from the cube head’s face. There seemed to be a lot of variety in the characters, customizable maybe? Gameplay looked very Little Big Planet, I really like the animations and artstyle, Dan Paladin FTW as always. Looks like a lot of fun!

I can only guess from this video but the multiplayer aspect of this looks like mad fun! One game mode looks like you have to run around colouring the bricks in your colour?

Also that little co-op section looked neat. Interested.

Looks awesome! It kind of reminds me of the PDA game from Alien Hominid. A full-fledged version of that, maybe?

I hope they include enough mechanical tile options in the inevitable level editor to allow for some complex teamwork-based puzzles. Maybe not so many that people build tetris or difference engines with them (lbp) but enough for creative thinking. Maybe a little physics, too? At least pivots and chains.

It does look like LittleBigPlanet, the Behemoth is not really known for originality. Alien Hominid was just a Metal Slug clone (Metanet called it a “re-skinned Metal Slug”). Castle Crashers was similar to Golden Axe and TMNT arcade. Now this seems to be their version of LBP.

…But since LBP is a Playstation exclusive, I would welcome a LBP clone on another system. Anyway, it’s not as if LBP was the most original title ever, it just had a lot of functionality built in to it. With games, originality isn’t always the most important thing, sometimes a copy can really improve on the original.

Looks interesting. I still like Castle Crashers better as in terms of game style and play. However, for a multiplayer game, it does look promising. I like the 2d death version of soccer. :P

I can’t even tell if this is a single game or if it’s more of a Generalized Virtual System for Fun-Having. I’m interested.

Destructoid sucks, they pay no respect to the Russian queen.

Sweet, this looks amazing. Lately I have really been digging the games from these guys. Alien Hominid was one of my favorite games on GC and Castle Crsahers is the best co-op game I have played in a long, long time. They keep the good stuff comin’ and they’ll have my money for sure :D

That being said, for someone this reminds me a lot of Smash Bros. In parts of the video it looked like some kind of crazy platforming fighter type game.

  10. Solace said about 4 hours later:

Huh, I’m definitely seeing several different games here. Competitive and co-op modes, platforming, fighting, 1-4 teams, and either supporting tons of players or ai helpers. The levels also look pretty easy to make an editor for. I agree with the people above me, it had definite elements from both littlebigplanet and super smash bros, two amazing games. If it’s half as good as it ought to be, I’m definitely buying it.

I think it bears some resemblence to Alien Homonid, a game that looks great but plays so fast that It should come with some crystal meth so that you can actually keep up with it. I love their art style, and liked cc alot so I am looking forward to this as well.

  12. Kneecaps said about 6 hours later:

I loved that trailer. I can only hope that the song in the trailer will be in the final game.

“Castle Crashers was similar to Golden Axe and TMNT arcade.”

I agree that Hominid was a very close homage to Metal Slug… but heck, once you start comparing a game to random examples from their common genre, you’re on shakier ground. Castle Crashers really was not any more similar to Golden Axe and TMNT than to any other brawler. Although having said that, I would be surprised if River City Ransom and Guardian Heroes weren’t among their inspirations for that game.

    looks like fun! :)

There’s a fucking soccer mode. You DON’T discuss with that. :D

If PC misses out again I’ll cry

  18. J said about 16 hours later:

Just came in here to post that. Don’t forget the PC this time, Behemoth! Many of us neither have nor want a 360. And I’d still buy a PC port of Castle Crashers.

  19. Penalty of Heroes said about 16 hours later:

If this is early in development I can’t wait to play for the final game :) It looks really nice (I like their visual style and that you can see that it’s a Behemoth game) and fun. Hope it come to Xbox Live :)

  20. Gutter said about 19 hours later:

Yeah, good idea there with the multiplayer, it worked so well the last time. I mean, I’m still waiting for my Castle Crasher to work online.

  21. i said about 22 hours later:

Digimon inflation fetish for the win!

  22. Krux said 1 day later:

J, you are right. I don’t want a 360, too. even better is a Linux port for me, but I know it won’t be possible, because XNA sucks.

  23. Dan MacDonald said 1 day later:

    The Behemoth pwns.

Yeah, games with completely new ideas are fun and refreshing, but there’s nothing wrong with doing an old idea well. “Not original” should not be an insult.
