Qwop

I’m not sure I could explain, in words, what Benzido’s Qwop is about any better than the above screenshot can. This must be what it’s like for a baby to try and walk!

7.9 Meters! Strange game, can’t say it was alot of fun but at least it was fascinating.

  2. ElTipejoLoco said 13 minutes later:

I epileptic-thrusted myself forward to gain any significant distance. Probably not the way it was meant to be played, but I ran backwards most of the time that I managed a realistic looking sprint.

    Funny as heck either way.

  3. fartron said 21 minutes later:

    i accidently the whole olympics

  4. Baba Yaga said about 1 hour later:

This is awesome! I got to 12 meters.

  5. Turgid said about 1 hour later:

Amusing as hell, but frustrating when I couldn’t find any consistent kind of pattern that works. I had some success with using one leg to drag myself along, but that only worked for a few meters at most.

    Realistic sprint? I wish. XD

Still pretty interesting, makes you think how complicated the coordination of our muscles for basic movements really is. Easy when your brain does it for you, hard as hell to do deliberately.

  6. falsion said about 1 hour later:

All I have to say is, this game is hilarious.

  7. h311diver said about 1 hour later:

Can’t figure out how to do a backflip…

  8. Seth said about 1 hour later:

my biggest gripe about this game is that the guys ankles are so weak. If they weren’t I have this guy sprinting down the track like Michael Johnson

  9. falsion said about 1 hour later:

I figured this game out, I can actually run in the game… then eventually trip over but I got 20 meters out of this (and counting).

When the game starts hold W and O.

Wait for the runner’s front foot to hit the ground and pivot slightly forward.

As soon as that happens, hold Q and P immediatley.

Now as soon as his foot hits the ground (just as it hits the ground, period, the angle doesnt matter here, unlike the first step) HOLD W and O ASAP!

Now rinse and repeat. Each time the front foot hits the ground alternate between holding W and O then Q and P. It takes a while to get the rhythm down, but once you have it, you’ll be sprinting along the track in no time.

  10. falsion said about 1 hour later:

err, btw after holding W and O on that last step, yes, you would then hold Q and P.

Just keep alternating between the two as the front foot hits the ground. Keep practicing with that, and you’ll get the hang of it.

  11. Benzido said about 2 hours later:

Thanks for the post, Derek! To everyone else, yes you can run like a normal person with some practice. Check youtube for some example videos.

  12. Septagon said about 3 hours later:

What a great idea! I love the way he flops around like a jellyfish at the beginning, before you learn to use the controls. Yet once you begin to get the idea, there’s still a fair amount of strategy to it.

    30.1 M!

The thing I hate about most Browser games is that though many of them have good ideas behind them, but they almost always feel rushed. They tend to suffer from technical flaws, uneven polish, ads, and not being full screen… No matter how good a browser game is, I usually end up struggling not to feel it’s insincere for some reason.

QWOP is pretty neat, though. I wish someone would make a more polished version.

  13. Nikica said about 3 hours later:

falsion way works for me, got 17.1 meters, ok gtg play it.

  14. Benzido said about 3 hours later:

Septagon: it’s not insincere, it’s just a smaller commitment. Publication costs are zero, and revenues are zero, so it doesn’t make sense to polish them for two years before putting them out there. I think of them as sketches.

  15. Seth said about 4 hours later:

“To everyone else, yes you can run like a normal person with some practice.”

maybe somewhat resembling a normal person, but really not at all like a normal person

  16. Neo1493 said about 4 hours later:

well that washard/fun/stupid my best so far is 19.4 meters its fun to try and do stuff like backflips and jumps but the guy runs like a drunk even with practice

  17. Shih Tzu said about 4 hours later:

Oh man, this is the most fun since Sumotori Dreams.

  18. SlyShy said about 4 hours later:

Well, I just beat it. I feel like I just won the special Olympics.

  19. ngajoe said about 5 hours later:

I swear, I will never take walking for granted again.

  20. hamster said about 5 hours later:

I actualy made it to the end by bouncing on one knee. I moved the caves to full extension in one way then wiggled the hips back and forth untill I got a little forward momentum. It took me 15 minuts.

  21. HandCraftedRadio said about 5 hours later:

Anyone else keep trying to do a backflip?

  22. null said about 6 hours later:

Yeah, the trick just seems to be alternating between holding W and O then Q and P every time the front foot hits the ground. I managed to get about 19 meters. I give up now.

  23. Bleagle said about 7 hours later:

Haha, imagine seeing this at tv. Millions of ppl watching this guy crawling and jumping over the ground. First he “qwops” into the wrong direction, hitting a white box. When trying to get forward he suddenly does a half backspin, his head bangs into the ground and he passes away.

  24. Bleagle said about 7 hours later:

  25. Greg said about 7 hours later:

Qwop is fricken hilliarious, zomg, crying laughing

  26. Fuzz said about 8 hours later:

51.8 metres! I got that from holding P the whole time, while tapping Q and then holding and releasing W. The 50 metre mark stopped me, though.

  27. namuol said about 8 hours later:

hilarious indeed, but nothing beats Sumotori Dreams (yet).

  28. Benzido said about 10 hours later:

You guys who are inching along will never get more than 100.0m

  29. falsion said about 11 hours later:

OMG, I just thought of something. Qwop for Indie Brawl! He would be the best character ever!

I mean, seriously. He could flop over and land on people and do partial front and backflips that result in him landing head first and headbutting people. He would be amazing.

  30. Jian said about 16 hours later:

I managed 23.9m with an actual real run before I tripped on my toes again.

  31. Skf said about 20 hours later:

    52.9 mtrs. DMMT HRDL!

  32. Fuzz said 1 day later:

I got 100.6 metres! http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc163/arandomdude/qwophighscore.jpg I’m not quite sure how I got past the 50 meter mark. I think I kind of pushed it out of the way.

  33. Fuzz said 1 day later:

Sorry, that link didn’t work. This is the link: http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc163/arandomdude/qwophighscore.jpg

  35. robolee said 1 day later:

    I got a good run to 10m

  36. madgarden said 2 days later:
