Zompocalypse: Episode One

Nice, I’ve been waiting for this one! Zompocalypse: Episode One was recently released by Toadtrip. Teaser screens of Zompocalypse appeared earlier this year, featuring the artwork of the talented Paul Greasley, who blessed us with Rap Attack: 2pacalypse Now for the TIGSource 2007 B-Games Competition. Needless to say, I was already slavering for the game like an undead hellion downwind of a mall.

Unfortunately, the game – a side-scrolling shooter with vertical, beat ‘em up-style movement – is currently limited to only a Survival mode, in which you, and possibly a friend, blast your way through a series of progressively harder stages for a high score. But updates are planned in the next few months, including new game modes, levels, and zombies. Buying the game now for half-price ($9.99) will, of course, entitle you to free updates and will help support the development of the game.

The mechanics are relatively simple in Zompocalypse – move and shoot. But the badass graphics and music, over-the-top violence and humor, and little details really make this a great one to goof off with with some friends: just like any good zombie flick. When all the updates are in there, I think it’ll be a…

No, I guess I can’t bring myself to make a “no-brainer” zombie pun. Kicks self in balls.

How can someone not buy a game that’s called Zombocapypse?

  4. Trotim said about 2 hours later:

    No! Not your balls!

If it was free - i would download it. But it’s not. So, there is nothing better then Facewound - http://www.facewound.com/ . Despite the fact that it is no longer in work.

Wow! I’ve wanted to make a game like this for ages!

Did anyone else think the 3D sprite scaling was a little confusing? I had a hard time telling when I would collide with something based off of its size. And I could have done without some of the profanity (can’t really play this one with my little brother, now can I?)

Other than that, pure awesomness. The shotgun made me weep tears of violence-fueled joy.

  7. James (RGCD) said about 4 hours later:

Bought it. It is good. :D

  8. Aaron H. said about 5 hours later:

Jimmy Curbstomp; Wait, you’d play an ultra-violent game with your little brother… If it didn’t have any profanity?

Do you also let him watch porn if there isn’t any profanity?

  9. Tyrone said about 16 hours later:

This one was fun, but I noticed some of the earlier weapons are actually more useful than ones earned later.

  10. Colin said about 17 hours later:

    Awesome game, really enjoyed it.

  11. Jimmy Curbstomp said about 18 hours later:

I dunno, it didn’t seem any more violent than say, Metal Slug or Alien Hominid. The extreme profanity just felt a little out of place. Maybe I’m feeling that just because I had my speakers on real loud the first time the character started shouting about “undead **suckers” and now my roommates look at me funny.

  12. Scott said 1 day later:

    lol at “extreme” profanity

  13. Permanent said 4 days later:

Are the zombies ripped from Metal Slug? Barrels from DOOM?
