Oldie-But-Goodie: Wire Robo

Wire Robo

Nepia World’s Wire Robo came out in 2002 but it’s a premise that’s as ancient as time immemorial: a giant mecha with a grappling hook head is controlled by a sleeping little girl and must save the universe. Being flung into the far reaches of space, your mech can’t move about directly – instead you have to use your head (heh) to grapple asteroids and enemies, using your angular momentum to propel you through the void (“Z” key).

The goal of each stage is to destroy the… I don’t know what you’d call them, space platforms? The platforms are immobile, but are surrounded by orbiting satellites which will fire on you if you get close. And if you grapple the platform itself, it can unleash more powerful attacks. To destroy them, use the arrow keys to change your direction – this will shoot a green blast from your hands that will zero in on your target.

Very, very awesome concept.

(Thanks, gsilverfish! I think you’re the one that submitted this to the database.)

I found this line infinitely amusing.

It’s true it was me! :) Glad you liked it!

I find that line infinitely disturbing…

They always put damned little girls in my mecha… Wish they’d stop that.

Really wish the game would let you start the level over when you die. I got to stage four and died because I got crushed between a rock and a wall. Died again on stage three and couldn’t be bothered to go through the first two again.

The visual style is a little off, I think. The asteroids are all polygonal and low-res and the main Mecha guy has a 3d feel to him, but the enemy platforms are crisp, detailed sprites. It’s like they couldn’t decide how they wanted their game to look.

@HURRR: agreed. But the concept sounds quite interesting - got to try this one sometime.

I never did quite understand this and I asked about it before but received no reply. Are you permitted to submit games that you haven’t made yourself to be put onto the database? If that’s so, I have about 300 awesome ones that I could submit, seeing as they haven’t seen the light of day on the database yet.

I ve problems with the intro movie.

the game starts. I see the logo but then there is only music and a black screen.

    Got anyone a solution?

  9. agh said about 18 hours later:

@toadsanime: Yes, it’s even better if it’s not your game.

@agh - Understood, thanks for the response. I suppose I have plenty to upload now. :D Thanks! ^_^
