Destructivator

Destructivator

Okay, Destructivator, by Pug Fugly Games, is just badass. The premise is simple enough – clear each of the 20 levels of enemies to win. But the game is just so freakin’ fast-paced that is feels like you’re on something. In most games, when the developers want to show that you have “heightened senses,” they slow down the enemies and your character moves at a normal pace. In this game you just have to keep up with yourself. Fortunately, you’re armed with a gun that fires appropriately rapidly (although not when you’re in mid-air). I love the way the bullets zip across the screen.

Tough game. Fast game. Good game. Goodnight!

I can’t play it. I always get an error from Windows. It’s the same problem with all the YoYo-Games and gamemaker-programs. Seems like I need some ceratin DLL. Can anybody help me?

  3. loopholezero said about 2 hours later:

@vincent: what dll? what error are you getting? what version of windows do you have?

or if that info is too personal to post here.. maybe you could just enter the error text in google and see what happens :)

This is really good fun! Love the pace and the presentation. Very nice challenge.

    ptoing? The guy from Pixelation?

    Trotim? The guy from TIGSource?

This game is pretty fun, but I have this nagging suspicion it’s not running at full speed. Maybe I’m just crazy. It’s really fun, regardless.

Very fun and quite addictive game indeed. Reminds me a bit of Lode Runner and Jetpac, but that’s mostly due to the similiar level structure. I don’t know how many levels Destructivator has, but if there are appropriately many, I think it would be a lot better if you didn’t have lives, but could easily start off where you were stuck last time. At least I made it to level 10 or so and actually don’t really feel like playing all levels over again. I just like such simple fun games better when the actual difficulty lies in each level alone, not the whole playthrough.

I think that’s even very great in 3D shooters. I still love GoldenEye so much because you can simply play any level you want. And it’s the same for that very great, very addictive, very simple shooter “X Operations”. I’m so glad I found it via TIGSource :)

But back to Destructivator, apart from that one complaint playing it feels very nice. The general pacing, the rapidly firing gun, the way enemies get pushed back when being hit and dodging the big and (comparatively) slow projectiles of some enemies - I like it all a lot.

  8. MisterX said about 5 hours later:

Oh, that’s got to be confusing: I actually meant the DOS game “Jetpack”, not “Jetpac”.

  9. Lailoken said about 9 hours later:

Awesome game, but I was hoping for a little more challenge. After I got the hang of not being tossed around and dieing in the first 5 levels i cleared the game pretty quick.

The boss only hit me once too…

  10. magallanes said about 12 hours later:

but i find the game pretty challenge.

  11. Stij said about 14 hours later:

I like how fast it is. Reminds me of cactus’s Shotgun Ninja.

  12. ObamaFisa said about 17 hours later:

No mention of Jumpman on the Apple IIe and C64? Maybe it is closer to Load Runner in graphics and style but I haven’t thought about these games in quite a while

  13. Guesst said 1 day later:

It’s missing levels shaped like eagles or the the broderbund logo and semi-destructible environments.

Having conspicuously explosive barrels around would also make this better.

  14. cactus said 1 day later:

I really like this game. Especially the cartriges flying out of the gun.

  15. ptoing said 1 day later:

So I am the guy from Pixelation now? I guess I am. shrugs

  16. Teknogames said 2 days later:

This game is fun, It’s just frustrating. I played it twice, got to the fifth level or so. Those damn red crystals. Will most likely play again.

  17. Phasma Felis said 2 days later:

I get massive slowdown if I try to run it at the same time as Firefox, for some damn reason. Works fine with FF closed.

  18. Last post getter said 3 days later:

Clearly, it feeds on the same prey as Firefox does! I wonder what that is…maybe paper chickens?

  19. ptoing said 3 days later:

Just finished it! Nice little boss fight at the end :D

  20. Mischief Maker said 4 days later:

The only complaint I have about this game is that it lacks a timer or some other scoring mechanic. Once you beat it you’re done.

  21. Quetz said 5 days later:

PHEW. After quite a few tries I finally beat it. I guess I was just in the zone today! I love the way your character flails his unused arm around behind him as he runs.
