Jets n' Guns Gold

Jets n’ Guns Gold is today’s Game Giveaway of the Day. This irreverent Euroshmup usually sells for $30 and is probably the best game you’ll ever get from GGOTD, so grab it now!

Once again, make sure you actually install the game before the giveaway runs out.

And just to put the paranoiacs at ease (although I don’t really expect that to ever happen, but whatever), there is no DRM, no spyware, no limits on what you do with the game once it’s installed. When you run the installer, it quickly checks that it’s still giveaway day on the site, and that’s it.

No, there is no catch. No adware, no nothing.

Also, this is a really goddamn good game. Like a modern sequel to Tyrian, but better. Get it.

Woah! I already got Jets’n’Guns as it was kind of a “free game giveaway of the month” in a german games magazine, so it’s great that now everybody can get it the same way.

It actually isn’t really a very good game in my opinion, but hell of a fun one, definitely a blast to play. Lots and lots of explosions, quite a load of weapons you can unlock, overall very nice graphics and the great driving soundtrack by Machinae Supremacy (which can be obtained for free on their homepage - alongside dozens of other songs). I only thought the prize point was too steep, as it is fun while it last, but at least for me not beyond that. So get it or you might regret it! :)

  3. PHeMoX said about 2 hours later:

Yeah, but this is Gold, meaning many more levels, right? Awesome and thanks for sharing Derek!

  4. MisterX said about 2 hours later:

True, it’s an extended version, I don’t even have that myself. Yay :)

  5. Trotim said about 2 hours later:

Eh, I don’t like it that much. It’s a little difficult because you can’t really distinguish enemy shots from neutral explosions and whatnot… and the damage done by touching enemies or walls just seems unfair.

It’s not a bad game, though. Definitely worth the download… but not 30$.

  6. nullerator said about 3 hours later:

This is IMO the best shmup released in years. Much better than the typical bullet-hell-crap that litters the genre these days.

  7. chutup said about 4 hours later:

Like Trotim, I thought it was pretty unfair at first that the bullets were so tiny and got lost in the debris all the time. But that’s just because we’ve been conditioned to dodge every single bullet by Shanghai Alice and such. Jets’n’Guns is more about attacking the most dangerous targets, killing them as quickly as possible, and staying out of the general bullet-milieu without worrying about every single shot. Besides, it has sexy space vampires!

“the best game you’ll ever get from GGOTD” are actually immortal defense and that ant-attack clone which name I forget.

  9. Jean-Sebastien said about 6 hours later:

I’ve been visiting GGOTD for quite some time (years in fact), and although I never download anything, there is always hope of something good on there.

But someone should hire that “Whiterabbit aka Stephen” guy. He started making them some time ago, and they got very detailed with time… he doesn’t even work for GGOTD.

  10. Fishy Boy said about 6 hours later:

I’m pretty sure the best game you could ever get from GGOTD was Puzzle Mania: Chronicles of the Unicorn. I bet Jet’s n’ Guns doesn’t have unicorn genitalia, which is the first thing I look for when getting a game.

  11. kemo said about 7 hours later:

I can perfectly distinguish those small bullets and stuff, but the INCREDIBLY SLUGGISH movement controls and the fact that you get branded as a “cheater” if you fail just ONCE - were quite the turn-offs.

  12. AmnEn said about 7 hours later:

Stephen doesn’t work for them? Afaik he got a special deal so that he can review games before they’re put up on their website.

Nonetheless, I’m still in awe as to how folks can call Jets and Guns difficult. You did see the Shop Section didn’t you? And you know that single bullet won’t instant wipe you? JnG is build around taking hits here and there and shoot everything down with screen filling uber weapons. If you try to dodge all those bullets, you die. If you concentrate on just leaning back, blasting away and enjoying the game, you live.

  13. Nathan said about 13 hours later:

You only get branded as a “cheater” if you die, then restart the level at a checkpoint. Not so if you go all the way back to the beginning.

  14. Phasma Felis said about 16 hours later:

Hell Yeah! I paid for the original version, but never got around to shelling out for the Gold pack. Now I don’t need to!

BTW, did anyone else think this was the only game ever that actually benefited from a choppy English translation? It should’ve been a big turnoff for my grammar-Nazi self, but the gameworld is so delightfully wacky that it only makes sense for everyone to speak in aggressive broken English.

  15. Radnom said about 20 hours later:

“It actually isn’t really a very good game in my opinion, but hell of a fun one,”

What the hell’s the difference between a fun game and a good game!!?

The only reason I play games is to have fun. If a game is fun, it’s good, it’s met its purpose.

This game is an absolute blast. Love it.

  16. Eclipse said about 21 hours later:

I had the “normal” version, the new comics stip and the biggest resolution of this one worth it, doesn’t count that the Gold one have the double of levels!

Btw, it’s not better than Tyrian, in any way, but it’s a great retro\indie game.

  17. PHeMoX said 2 days later:

I guess I have to buy it after all, as my internet connection gave up after I had downloaded this. :(
