RPS: Multiwinia Hands-on

Rock, Paper, Shotgun’s own Kieron Gillen has penned a hands-on preview of Multiwinia, the multiplayer version of Introversion’s hit real-time strategy game Darwinia. Hmmm, that sentence certainly sounds strange with all the “versions” and “winias” in it…
Anyway, in the preview Kieron plays a “King of the Hill” match against four computer opponents. From the preview and the comments following, the general consensus seems to be that the game’s mechanics are simple and relatively standard (which isn’t necessarily a slight). The game also continues to look quite good.
Multiwinia is slated for a PC release in September. It will also be included with the original game as part of Darwinia+ for the Xbox 360 – also due out in the Fall.

Darwina is Indie Project? I wasn`t know it…
Was that irony, or just ignorance?
I’m not sure I like this yet, it’s a pretty radical departure from the original Darwinia aside from the obvious theme… It is perhaps a bit too much like a standard real time strategy game.
Well, I’m not a RTS fan since the only one I REALLY enjoyed was Warhammer: Dark Omen (I tried the newer Warhammer & 40K games, not my thing and/or not well executed) but I still managed to enjoy Darwinia quite a bit.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem that I’ll be enjoying Multiwinia much judging from what I’ve played so far. It’s a very different game, just using the same theme and similar assets.
It is probably going to be pretty good for RTS fans, but I’m not one to judge that…
The game reminds me more of Cannon Fodder than a real time strategy game. Oh Cannon Fodder, how I miss thee.
Not interested. But wtf is that procedural city game they are working on. That could be huge.
Multi-player Darwina? Sounds fu-zzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZ.
