Sandra Day O'Connor: Indie Game Developer

Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female Justice of the United States Supreme Court and all-around badass (now retired as the former), was the keynote speaker yesterday at Games For Change, a three-day festival for “social impact” games held at Parsons The New School For Design (that is an awkward name) in New York City. In her keynote, O’Connor revealed a project she’s working on – Our Courts, an “interactive online civics curriculum” (otherwise known as “games”) that will educate students about the United States’ legal and judiciary systems by letting them tackle real world problems. The project will launch in 2009.
When asked what her favorite video game was, O’Connor paused very briefly before closing her eyes, leaning into the mic, and whispering, “Cave Story.”
(Just kidding, but that’s still pretty cool, innit?)

I believe there was a game where real cases came up and you had to decide guilty or innocent based on the evidence that real juries were confronted with, and it’d let you know how close your decisions came to the actual decisions. I forget the name of the game, but it sounds similar to what she’s talking about.
And in other game industry related news, good news as it seems Jack “I-ARE-BAN-GTA” Thompson might be banned from practicing law for the next decade instead as punishment for misbehavior in court and so on.
Cave story ripoff.
I wish to marry this Woman
I heard she beat Hell in under 3 minutes.
Cave story,FTW!
@ Mazapán:
she did it with minimal items and 3 hp too!
This is a good idea, and if they can get it to work, it might just be effective on young Americans. maybe.

I hope it’s a real judge simulator, where you can seat without pants, masturbate during trial, inflict fees to the attorneys for frivolous reasons and be a general bully with everybody.
@Mazapán: I also heard that she burned the rope. But I’m not sure if she could be capable of such an Herculean feat.
BURNING THE ROPE?! As in that rope in You Have to Burn the Rope? What for, anyway? Last I recall, there was a Grinning Colossus in there you had to defeta, which I sill can’t, by the way, even aftear reading the whol walkthroughs and such.
But yeah, I fell for the Cave Story joke (I missed the tiny footer)
Pssh. She beat the damn colossus WITHOUT burning the rope. That’s breaking the rules, badass style.
I always wanted to beat the colossus without burning the rope. Damn her.
Objection!!
These “games” had better contain many logical fallacies and loopholes, but also really lovable main characters!!
Man, I thought Sandra Day would be more down with Dwarf Fortress
There is no judicial precedent for Dwarf Fortress. However, once it’s complete it will become law.
The only law.
Am I the only one who thought of Phoenix Wright when I read this?
Is that a joke Evilish?
Evilish - have you seen my link? ;-)
Hey guys this sounds like this nintendo game with the lawyers. Also : she’s hot.
@Evilish:
Objection!!!
I already clearly stated “Objection!!”. ;)
@doobo:
she’s the new Mia Fey
Now that Jack Thompson is disbarred, maybe he can use this game to reeducate himself in the ways of the law.
