Noitu Love 2 is out!

Noitu Love 2

Oh yes, it’s finally here! Noitu Love 2 is the very long awaited sequel to the original side-scrolling mighty-morphing action game from Konjak. Hit up the site for both an extended demo version and to purchase the full version online. The forums do seem to list some problems with getting order emails through, which seems mainly to do with PayPal (although it worked for me), so if you can avoid using that then maybe a better plan as there are a number of payment options, but if not I’m sure it’ll probably work out fine anyway.

$20 may seem a little high (edit: according to the comments, this is apparently only the case if you’re a student… bugger…), but I swear on my reputation as the most ‘occasional’ contributor to TIGSource that if you at least give the demo a try you will not be disappointed. And if you have already, then you’re probably too busy clicking the above link to read this. I understand. Do what you must. As well as the main 7-level IGF finalist game, the full version also offers a wealth of unlockable content, including one extra that’s so awesome I swear I’m running my second-playthrough pantless.

Happy gaming TIG!

I’m really sorry about this PayPal crap… :(

    And thanks, Xander!

  2. december said 40 minutes later:

Xander, you are wrong. $20 does not seem a little high. It is between five and ten dollars less than I was prepared to pay.

  3. Raisins said about 1 hour later:

I really want this to come to steam

  4. Xander said about 1 hour later:

I may change my post to reflect this december.

‘You may think that $20 is too much, BUT YOU ARE WRONG’

    Perfect…

  5. Hunty said about 1 hour later:

$20 is what videogames are supposed to cost. :)

This and Aquaria seem like prime candidates for Greenhouse, once it finally gets going.

  6. Zaphos said about 1 hour later:

To echo everyone else, $20 is kinda what I expected – I think that is kind of a standard price point for PC indie stuff.

  7. Zaphos said about 1 hour later:

    Also: OMG must get game!

  8. dustin said about 2 hours later:

In case anyone’s on the fence, this game is fun as hell, and challenging without ever getting cheap.

It’s also faster paced than any metal slug or contra despite having to use your fists in leau of guns

  9. Derek said about 2 hours later:

Yes! Thanks for catching this, Xander. $20 bucks very, VERY well spent. :)

  10. Zoram said about 2 hours later:

With the Euro so strong lately, it’s really a small price. Just a question, how big is the download of the full version? Right now I’m on a strict bandwidth limit, so I must know the file size beforehand.

  11. konjak said about 2 hours later:

Hah, the file size is 11,5 megs. :D

  12. Lim-Dul said about 2 hours later:

    Only around 11.7 MB. ^^

  13. Radnom said about 2 hours later:

Hot damn, I just spent the last of my student-money on Cortex Command last week. Now that I’m not a student though I will attempt to get a job so I can buy more delicious indie games starting with this one.

  14. Xion said about 2 hours later:

In the picture, there is an arrow pointing at Xoda’s boobie.

Awesome. (about the game, I mean. Not the arrow.) Now I need to get some money with which to buy this awesomeness.

  15. Osg said about 2 hours later:

Man…I love the demo, but geeze. I haven’t been able to play it yet, because the company is taking all day to do something that usually takes a couple of seconds. Playing the demo to pass times, but man.

  16. Radnom said about 2 hours later:

Haha, there’s an arrow pointing at her boob?

  17. konjak said about 2 hours later:

I wanted to use sex to sell.

    And it’s the mouse pointer.

  18. Xander said about 2 hours later:

Haha, that wasn’t really intentional, but I guess subconciously who knows? I thought it was funny at least, but given Xoda’s COMPLETELY UNAMUSED GLARE I may have my shins kicked in later…

  19. Carlz0r said about 3 hours later:

Um… I think the game just wiped my save file when I quit and came back to it… Any idea what causes this, so it doesn’t happen again?

  20. Dusty Spur said about 3 hours later:

my lack of a credit card or bank account once again foils me in my efforts to have fun. sadface.

  21. konjak said about 3 hours later:

Carlz0r, did you Save & Quit and? And it was still gone?

  22. Carlz0r said about 3 hours later:

I got to the same point again, and figured out what happened.. I saved and quit, then resumed, then quit again. the resuming deletes the save…

Is there anyway to save mid-level, even if it’d return me to the beginning of the stage when I resume? The reason I ask, is what if I resume my game, and then get called away to do something else, before I can finish the level… I’ll have to quit mid-level, and it will have already destroyed my save from when I continued.

And what if I resume, then lose power? I’ll have to start all over every time something silly like that happens… bad save system =(

  23. Carlz0r said about 3 hours later:

if/until I get an answer to that question, I may or may not have found a solution… I’ll just backup the “save” file in the game’s directory each time I save and quit… Hopefully replacing an absent save file with the backup will work.

  24. konjak said about 3 hours later:

Yes, it deletes a save once loaded because a save that remains defeats the point of continues and a lot of the challenge.

I can’t stop people from copying saves, though.

  25. crackers said about 3 hours later:

Wow, $20, that’s about the price of a budget PC game. If anyone complains about that then they are cunts.

  26. Geoff said about 4 hours later:

As soon as I get my paypal account I’m buying this, also konjak nice asset compression, I can’t remember the last time I download anything VG related at 10 megs.

  27. Geoff said about 4 hours later:

oh and good game to :P

  28. Genisi said about 4 hours later:

Man, I fucking LOVED the demo, but buying the actual game seems to be a bit of a chore with the whole confirmation stuff, and it just seems to take forever.

I really want to play the game, but it just seems to take a bit too long to actually get to doing so.

  29. Lim-Dul said about 4 hours later:

@Gensi - took me about 2-3 minutes? But then I already had a PayPal account. =)

  30. Genisi said about 4 hours later:

I do too, but it just seems to be taking way longer that it probably should

  31. gnawingonfoot said about 4 hours later:

I haven’t had this much fun with a game in this genre since Gunstar Super Heroes. Very nice! Now if only I hadn’t bought so many other games this weekend… Anyhow, this is going straigt to the top of my ‘to buy’ list.

  32. harkejuice said about 5 hours later:

THIS ROCKS. i played noitu love 1, but this ,..this just awesome.

@Gensi, it really goes alot faster if you have a pay pal account.

  33. Annabelle said about 5 hours later:

i just bought this.. its so killer.

I love it! konjak you are amazing.

  34. Carlz0r said about 6 hours later:

I don’t see why anyone would complain about how slow you get the game… After putting in my info, and waiting about 3 minutes, the email was in my mailbox… and the download only took a very short time.

  35. Carlz0r said about 6 hours later:

Ran in to a glitch in the third level when you fight the underwater snake thing…. I somehow ended up someplace offscreen (I think underground) where I couldn’t see my character, and I was forced to quit without saving… lost all my progress because I forgot to try my backing up save files idea… yay… starting over… again…

  36. Pigbuster said about 6 hours later:

    AGH.

The first demo worked almost perfectly on my mac using Crossover, but this version can’t go full screen without a serious decrease in frame-rate.

    Very sad, I am.

  37. Valkyrie said about 10 hours later:

Freaking awesome game. Bought it and played straight through with Xoda and the other two unlockable characters. Clicking the mouse was killing me so I plugged in my tablet and used that. Needs a little tweaking in the tablet panel but works beautifully.

The only real bug I came across was after beating the game with the second unlockable character and watching the credits, the game crashed on me. I haven’t tried to replicate it yet, but I’m gladly doing so right now.

  38. Melly said about 11 hours later:

Glitches or not, I’m getting this the first chance I’m able.

    I’m doing this shit, baby.

  39. Mar said about 11 hours later:

    YEEEEEEAH!

  40. Valkyrie said about 11 hours later:

Nope. Just a freak occurrence with MMF2 I guess.

    Hard mode, here I come!

  41. Melly said about 11 hours later:

Yep, found a glitch on the extended demo. I was hit by the guillotines at one point and Xoda got stuck on the top, falling down and damaging herself continuously. None of my controls worked and even as the level restarted the controls did not returned, forcing me to restart and lose my progress.

I also felt the overall performance of the extended demo was poorer than that of the previous one.

  42. Eclipse said about 11 hours later:

I’ll buy it because that amusing arrow

  43. OrR said about 14 hours later:

On my PC, the first fullscreen mode doesn’t go full screen but displays the game as a small box in the middle of the screen. The second one makes the screen go black and displays nothing (but a just slightly visible red square in the upper right corner). I wonder what changed from the demo… Maybe it’s the bloody Nvidia drivers messing with my dual monitor setup again.

  44. Lim-Dul said about 17 hours later:

Have you tried setting different scaling options in your NVIDIA control panel?

  45. OrR said about 18 hours later:

Scaling options? Are you talking about screen resolutions or something else?

  46. Scottedont said about 18 hours later:

I just bought NL2 and I got all the way to to level 6. At level 6 though, the gravity switch keeps pushing Xoda into the ceiling and she stays stuck at the top of the screen in a crouched position. I can’t get past lvl6 because of this. Its an odd bug. Has anybody else had this problem? Otherwise this is the best action game I have played in a long time. ^_^

  47. konjak said about 18 hours later:

Scottedont, it SOUNDS like a bug I fixed, there is a patch here: http://www.konjak.org/nl2patch_0.9c.zip

  48. Mischief Maker said about 19 hours later:

I bought this game, love it, but I have one big non-bug complaint.

It feels odd to request repetition and filler from a game designer, but the level pacing in this game after level 1 is way too breakneck.

There are oodles of pink and blue darns to destroy, but the other, more interesting variations are gone in a blink. I think there are only 2 of those broadsword darns who require timing and dodging in the entire game. They should have been used throughout. Same with those cool teleporting samurai darns. And that nifty strider-esque gravity reversing was over in less than 30 seconds.

The pink and blue darns are great and all, but they’re also really easy. As the game goes on, the darns you face should become more challenging and diverse to keep it from becoming the mindless clickfest the game’s detractors accuse it of being. If anything, it would be the 2D Devil May Cry we’ve been wanting for years.

At the very least, if MMF can handle it, the final level in version 1.0 should just be a chaotic mess of smart darns and broadsword darns and samurai darns and new darns and pink darns and blue darns, all at the same time.

    Just my 2 cents.

  49. Lambchops said about 20 hours later:

Konjak you are gloriously quick with these bug patches! I was having the same problem as Scottedint at various points in the game (but most particularly at the gravity switch section) - good to see you’ve fixed it so quickly. I’m looking forward to seeing what the last couple of levels are like.

  50. konjak said about 20 hours later:

Well, have you played Hard and Hardest yet?

  51. Mischief Maker said about 21 hours later:

Oh… no. I was busy trying out the unlockable characters on normal mode. My fault for jumping to conclusion.

Speaking of unlockable characters, are you going to eventually add that one missing frame of animation character #3 so desperately needs?

  52. Xander said about 21 hours later:

I played through Hard mode with of the unlockable bonuses, but I had my ass handed to me on hardest with Xoda. I may run through hard with Xoda in my search for that missing picture in my credits book.

  53. Nillo said about 21 hours later:

Looks very interesting. I shall try the demo, and maybe buy it later if it’s good. 20 dollars is definitely an affordable price.

  54. BreadCultist said about 21 hours later:

Tried the demo. Didn’t expect the mouse interface. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t much like the first game. Looked and sounded great, but was too repetitive. Sequel seems jolly fine splendid. Throwing grunts is great. My right index finger got a bit tired during my first play. Discovering the special moves made it less tiring. Will probably buy the full version. Going to try the demo with my Xbox controller…

  55. Lim-Dul said about 22 hours later:

@OrR - no, in the NVIDIA control panel you should have a “change flat panel scaling” tab. You can choose between NVIDIA scaling, NVIDIA scaling with fixed aspect ratio, your display’s built-in scaling and no scaling at all. One of these options should do the trick for you.

  56. King-n said about 23 hours later:

Too bad I can’t afford it.

  57. OrR said about 24 hours later:

Flat panel scaling? I’m on a good old CRT… :P Can’t get it to work but then again my video drivers have been acting up anyway… Suddenly the dual view option is gone. :( This might be related I guess.

  58. cactus said 1 day later:

Great game. I had fun from start to finish. Gonna try to beat it with the two unlockable characters as well :)

Definitely worth $20 in my opinion.

  59. BreadCultist said 1 day later:

Reading about the other playable characters sealed the deal. Strange how they weren’t advertised, lol.

  60. Michael said 1 day later:

Clearly Noitu Love 2 is a huge step above the original. Joakim should have no problem in getting laid ever again.

  61. bateleur said 1 day later:

I reckon I got $20 of value out of the previous version of the demo, so this was an auto-buy for me.

Looking forward to the full game muchly, but no time to play it now because I neeed sleeep! :-(

Payment and download system worked flawlessly, though. :-)

  62. GirlFlash said 1 day later:

I played the first demo and it prolly is worth $20, though I am a student right now, so I will always complain about the price of anything over $5 =p

bleh, tbh it has a fair bit in common with a game I’m planning now, so I’ll keep my eye on how people deal with the cost pretty closely >__>

  63. Uesugi said 1 day later:

Game looks great and fun, but it’s unplayable (for me at least) with these controls. Right hand on the arrow keys, left hand on the… mouse button?

Why not use “z” or the left ctrl for attack?

  64. Melly said 1 day later:

The way the game controls that wouldn’t work well Uesugi.

I personally have no problem with the mouse controls. I don’t think anybody should have as long as they have a decent mouse. Much like you have no problem in consoles if you have a decent controller.

  65. Lim-Dul said 1 day later:

Game looks great and fun, but it’s unplayable (for me at least) with these controls. Right hand on the arrow keys, left hand on the… mouse button?

Kinda like every first person shooter released in the past 10 years or so? =)

Although it’s WASD for me but you are apparently left handed. Still, I can’t see what’s wrong with the mouse controls. For me they’re the most brilliant thing about this game. =)

  66. Uesugi said 1 day later:

Nope, not left-handed. I almost always play games with my right hand on the arrow keys and left hand on the left side of the keyboard.

For first person shooters with mouse look, I map the left mouse button to forward and the right mouse button to back, and left ctrl to fire. (A configuration which I admit is odd ;) but when it comes to 2D arcade games I always thought the right hand arrow keys and left hand z/ctrl was normal…

  67. Lim-Dul said 1 day later:

Well - look at any console controller and see the error of your ways. ^^

  68. BreadCultist said 1 day later:

@Uesugi T-That control configuration! I’ve seen it before. You post on the Edge boards, right?

You’re meant to the WASD keys if you’re right-handed, dood. And you neeed to use the mouse, for clicking on stuff, for aiming. This game is not like other games. Deal with it >:O

  69. Liquixcat said 1 day later:

$20!? Maybe I’m not as optimistic as others or I just value my dollar more. Not only presumptuous of you to conclude your worth at such a price, but demeaning to a large amount of developers who release their software for free.

I suppose you are all just being horribly nice to alert more attention to the Indie scene but accepting $20 for an Indie-game wouldn’t be the attention I’d encourage.

There are a great amount of games that are freeware/open-source and the lot of those far outweighs the benefits of a single game for $20. They also don’t ask for money but donations which is what makes the Indie scene so enjoyable to me.

The fact that someone else can decide the worth of your creation and reward you accordingly is the concept I’d rather encourage.

  70. Pyregel said 1 day later:

I really enjoyed playing the Demos for the game! I plan on buying it soon.

  71. Lim-Dul said 1 day later:

Liquixcat - I think you’re mixing up the “indie scene” with the “freeware scene”. It is for the author to decide what he does with his creation and remember that he invested quite some time in it. Many indie devs are trying to live off their games and it’s possible because the “scene” is developing - the more polished and awesome indie games will be getting (like Noitu Love 2 which is almost indistinguishable from good NintendoDS titles), the more of them will have to be paid for. And that’s OK.

Be glad that the money you’re paying for the games goes to the developers in a more direct way and that they don’t charge you a ton of money like the big publishers.

Last time I checked 20$ was around two tickets to the cinema IN POLAND - a not-so-rich country, mind you…

  72. ZeppMan217 said 1 day later:

oh my…i cant buy the game =( not even cause of price but because of my geographical situation =(((

  73. Nu said 1 day later:

$20 is just right for high quality indie games like this.

  74. shinygerbil said 1 day later:

A high-quality game, definitely worth the price, if not more. :D

  75. hueg said 1 day later:

    YEEEEEEEEEEH FUCK YEEEEEEEEHHHH

Also, I’m getting a bug on the final boss, where the hooks dont appear after you smash the earring orb things. This only happens after I continue.

  76. Lambchops said 1 day later:

20 dollars, or just over 10 quid in real money, is a perfectly reasonably price to pay for an indie game. The price point is always the developers choice; based on how much they think is sensible to charge and how much effort they put into creating the game. In general I’m willing to pay around 10 to 20 dollars for a good quality platform or puzzle game (the likes of Noitu Love 2, Gish, World of Goo and so on) and a little bit more for more lengthy experiences (the 30 dollars for Aquaria was a bargain considering how much play time I got out of it).

I’d have felt Noitu Love should have been cheaper as it is a relatively short game, however the extras giving added replay value means I have no complaints.

That said the best value for money indie game I’ve played recently has to be Audiosurf. Only about 5 pounds and I’ve poured hours into it.

If I was providing a service like these games I’d certainly want some sort of monetary gain for my efforts to reward me on a job well done and pay the bills. Donations aren’t the way to go unless you know you’ve not polished the game or you don’t need the cash. After all how many times have you pressed a donate button. I know that I haven’t, nor would I be inclined to - no matter what the quality of the game.

  77. Mischief Maker said 1 day later:

    What is going on here?

Indie/Shareware games have cost $20 since time immemorial. If anything, recent games like Immortal Defense, Aquaria, and Armageddon Empires have had me worried that that average price point would climb to $30. I was relieved that this game is only $20.

Seriously, where are all these $5 and $10 games you people are judging NL2’s price on? Fren-Ze? Bullet Candy? Is there anything else?

  78. Xander said 1 day later:

Audiosurf! I think that was a fine price for what it was though since it required the player to fill in the missing pieces. That and most things on XBLA are probably pitched cheaper… which is maybe where this kind of pricing confusion happens.

It’s really up to the author; if he thinks it’s worth $20 (Like we do) then he can charge that price. If he just wants to see what’d happen if he made it free for the day as a GGOTD like Immortal Defense then that’s fine too! Just as long as he makes more games afterwards he can charge what he likes!

  79. hmm said 1 day later:

Might put money down for this but the demo was over in a few minutes. I’m not happy putting money down for a game that I’ll beat in an hour. Especially when there are $10 games like Audiosurf which shits out replayability.

Is there an online high score? Can it be modded or have DLC updates?

  80. card said 1 day later:

Great game, but I’m having trouble with the shieldy guys on level 4. I kill them, but I don’t know how I’m doing it, then I die on the guitar miniboss. I don’t really get what the arrows mean.

  81. Xander said 1 day later:

The way that laser weapon works is that you connect a line between targets to attack. So, with that shield enemy you attack the weird things that show up with the arrows and then hold the attack moving over onto the shield guy so the beam attacks through connection from above without needing to go through the shield.

  82. konjak said 1 day later:

    Pausing reminds you of controls!

  83. bateleur said 1 day later:

card - The arrows give you clues throughout the game in different ways. In that particular scene they’re hinting that you need to strike from that direction. How you achieve this is fairly obvious if you read the instructions at the start of the level (or hit Enter to look at the controls), but note that you can’t always kill things as soon as they appear. Sometimes you need to wait for the right moment!

  84. card said 1 day later:

OK, I got it :) Thanks! I don’t really know why I didn’t realize that, mental block I guess.

  85. OrR said 1 day later:

Reporting back to say that my Nvidia driver fixed itself and also fixed the full screen issue I had. Works great now. Awesome game! :)

  86. Lambchops said 2 days later:

I love the playing style of the third unlockable character; it’s fun times indeed when my main tactic is to throw the character in the air out of the way of attacks so I can reload, quickly catching him again if he’s going to hit anything on his descent!

While I’m going to struggle completing it on hard (I suck at platformers and level 3 is a bitch when you’re inept at dodging axes!) I’ll give it a go. All I’m missing at the moment is finding that darned user designed boss - I’ll find hime yet!

  87. Scottedont said 2 days later:

Hey, that patch seemed to do the trick for the most part. I’m not shifting through ceilings anymore but I found a problem with Almond. It seems that if he is in midair at the end of one level, the beginning of the next level will not initialize properly. All you see when the level starts is the far background of the level and maybe some flying enemies depending on the level.

  88. Nillo said 3 days later:

There are so many fields to fill in before paying, and I’m a lazy bastard like that. Why can’t I just press one of those nifty paypal buttons and get on with it?

  89. Moose said 3 days later:

Gaah. Why the silly rule that if you quit a game in the middle, you have to start from the beginning of the entire game next time?

  90. Lim-Dul said 3 days later:

    You save between levels. =)

Joakim already said that it’s supposed to increase the challenge. I mean - obviously he has mastered saving more than certain other devs since his game even manages to create backup saves when it crashes!

  91. machrider said 4 days later:

Is the full game as repetitive as the demo?

I mean despite everyone being wowed by the cool effects and nice graphics, they honestly did nothing for me as I played the demo. I saw right through it and all I saw was the gameplay in all its boring repetitive glory.

People flamed me for this and said the full game was going to be the next coming of Christ. So how is the full game? I wasn’t expecting it to be actually sold. Klik games for the most part never go commercial.

Is it any better? Does the gameplay feel less repetitive and less like a game of hungry hungry hippos (i.e. button mashing galore)?

I mean, I can’t tell unless I buy it. Yes, there is the demo, but I didn’t like the demo due to how boring the gameplay got by the second level.

Maybe an updated demo with any changes made in the full version will be nice. Otherwise I think I’ll pass on this one.

  92. machrider said 4 days later:

That is, if there are any changes or differences in the full game. Otherwise, nevermind. I’ll just pass on it if its exactly the same.

  93. konjak said 4 days later:

In that second comment you just repeated something you said in the first. You should just learn to summarize.

Just don’t buy the game, okay?

  94. slang said 4 days later:

Lovely pixelart and great game BUT imo level 4 is no fun at all, just confusing and annoying. Though I know that you have to connect targets I don’t have a freaking clue how to drain energy from the (last?) boss (telescopic arm). Also, I don’t find the explanation at the beginning of level 4 very useful because they read more like a vague hint.

  95. Xander said 4 days later:

Not the last boss of that level, but telescopic eye guy you need to use the ball that appears in the centre of his arm to connect the electric fence things above and below him so that it forces him to dine on hot electric death.

  96. xerus said 4 days later:

Christ, Machrider, just dont buy the game and move on with your life.

  97. PaperHeart said 4 days later:

i paid already but I didn’t get the program ):

  98. machrider said 4 days later:

How about if someone would actually answer the damn question?

  99. Derek said 4 days later:

I don’t think anyone can answer you because they disagree with the implication of your question (namely, that the demo is “boring”).

But no, you probably wouldn’t enjoy the full game if you didn’t like the demo. ;)

  100. machrider said 4 days later:

That was not the question. That was my opinion of the demo. I am asking if the game is still repetitive (or in other words, is the full version like the demo and does it consist of endless button mashing over and over)?

  101. machrider said 4 days later:

Let me put it simply. Has the gameplay changed, at all?

  102. Zaphos said 4 days later:

    For everyone’s favorite machrider:

The game has three characters, who each play with different mechanics (Xoda [who you played in the demo], a gun-based character, and a lightgun-style character (where you play the game as if you had a light gun, and the character you’re controlling just needs to be tossed through the level moved away from harm.) There’s also a shmup-like level, which has a neat mechanic to it (this can be seen briefly in the trailer, as I recall). For the most part, clicking things and dodging other things remains at the core of the game throughout.

I played 10 bucks for Ikaruga (in Hd)…and I will most likely be paying 10 bucks for braid (in HD)…and you expect me to pay twice that for this?

  104. ugh said 4 days later:

I’m reading these Class A bugs that you guys posted…Looks like none of those 20 bucks went towards hiring qualified QA…oh right…I keep forgetting this is an “Indy game”…nobody hires anybody. Carry on morons.

  105. xerus said 4 days later:

Its actually “Indie,” unless you’re referring to Dr. Jones.

  106. Derek said 4 days later:

I’m just a dumb indie gamer, so I’m not sure which class of bugs these belong in:

Let us know, buddy! You’re the video game-making expert!

(And do tell us how much QA cost for this one, too!)

  107. gustav said 4 days later:

I’m interning as QA right now. Monthly pay is about half of what Joakim has made on NL2 all together.

Joakim told me how he found some to be impossible to reproduce. I never found any collision bugs for example, even though i played the game quite thoroughly.

Unlike “professional” games (atleast the one’s i’ve tried in alpha stage), bugs don’t come up and slap you in the face. Some guys have been testing this game i’m testing thoroughly every day for over a year and still i find bugs that heavily affect the gameplay or crash the game completely. Professional games in my experience are general bug-fests and still they don’t turn out even half as good NL2.

Just wanted to add my voice to this comments thread, saying how bloody impressed I am by this game. As soon as I get my home pc back, I’m so on this.

But then I see a couple of snipes from ugh, and I start to wonder what the chances are that he’s used the price point, as well as any other lame excuses, as a way to justify warezing this game.

“Ohh, people give indie games too much slack” - well, no shit fuckwad. Indies don’t (typically) have any financial security. They’re making these games without a safety net, and more importantly, bold despite boldshit poos bitching about how they could buy 5 overpriced coffees with the same amount of money being asked for.

    More power to you, konjak.

  109. Bezzy said 5 days later:

I have clearly misinterpreted the markup scheme.

  110. slang said 5 days later:

OK, thanks to Xander’s advice I now got past level 4…level 5 was pretty straight forward but then at level 6 it happens again. What the hell am I supposed to do now?! Knock the ball thingy around so it explodes on top of the boss? Seriously, I’ve played the shit out of games like Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier and Iwanaga but none of them were as confusing and frustrating as this. Also, loosing sight of the crosshair due to the overkill of colors doesn’t necessarily help.

  111. Kongming said 5 days later:

Damn, I don’t know how people can get so angry and bitchy about a hobby that’s supposed to be FUN.

  112. Zaphos said 5 days later:

    Spoiler text for slang:

(I hope I’m thinking of the same boss as you!)

When the boss drops the ball, wait on the opposite side of the tunnel, so the ball falls down next to you. Duck, and wait for it to become electric, and while it’s sparking drop down to the side of the tunnel where the boss is. The ball falls with you, damaging the boss. Repeat 2 times.

(and yeah, this boss confused me too)

  113. konjak said 5 days later:

I’ve stated before, Treasure wasn’t my inspiration. I like Metal Slug and I like bosses where you have to find weak spots, so it merged.

Also, the game is 0.9 in reservation of bugs, because I can’t pay for professional testers, so you could just sit back until 1.0 arrives.

    Thanks!

  114. DaVince said 5 days later:

20 dollars IS a bit much for a game like this. Compare to Audiosurf, which goes for 10 euros… I’d pay around 15 for this game at most.

  115. slang said 5 days later:

@Zaphos Yeah, that’s the one. Thanks. Pretty twisted tactic… @konjak Really? Imo it plays and feels like a mixture between Alien Soldier and Gunstar Super Heroes. And a rather good one at that.

  116. machrider said 5 days later:

That gun based character sounds interesting. Too bad it wasn’t in the demo.

  117. Mischief Maker said 5 days later:

I’m sorry machrider. I know you didn’t enjoy the demo and that this game is really not for you, but the jackbooted indiegame thugs who have been forcing you to play the demo and read this blog post over and over again will not listen to reason.

You have NO CHOICE but to buy 10 copies of this game, erase and smash the disks of all your other games, set fire to any consoles you may own, quit your job, and spend the rest of your life playing the game over and over again like so much Howard Hughes.

Since your doom is already spelled out in plain letters for you, why do you prolong the suffering by asking whether the rest of the game is like the demo you didn’t like? Of course it is. So buy your copies, hunker down in front of the keyboard, and get it over with. It’s always better to rip a band-aid off rather than slowly peel.

  118. Xander said 5 days later:

I looked up jackbooted in the dictionary and the first definition was ‘wearing jackboots’

    I probably should’ve guessed that.

Audiosurf is also completely contentless and could be made in a weekend. There’s a difference between shell games and content games, and I’d take the latter any day

  120. Zaphos said 5 days later:

Does it even really matter how much a completely different game costs, or how many man hours it took to create it? Those things don’t really factor in to my decision of whether to buy or not.

I do wonder how much relative price affects buying decisions. For example, I wonder if it would be the case that, if you sold two similar games for $20 each, someone would buy both, but if you sold one for $10 and the other for $20, people would buy only the $10 one, because the existence of the $10 one sets the perception that ‘these games only worth $10.’

  121. Wacky Willy said 5 days later:

Audiosurf is just Klax mixed with Winamp visualizatons. It’s a neat game but I don’t see it as the ultimate standard by which all indies should be judged/priced.

  122. machrider said 5 days later:

Mischief Maker, don’t worry. Some day I will release Untitled Game (tentative title) and show everyone how gaming is supposed to be. I just hope we all aren’t dead by then, or that you’re all still into gaming by then, at least.

  123. machrider said 5 days later:

Charging $20 is a good idea. I should keep that in mind. I need to learn how to draw too and make nice effects on screen. The gameplay doesn’t actually matter that much now that I think of it. I mean, it does. But, who cares about gameplay anymore? lol ¯(°_o)/ ¯

  124. machrider said 5 days later:

Actually, I’m just kidding. I’m sure the full game is pretty cool and maybe has more variety in the later levels and especially with the other character who uses a gun. But as long as you keep making remarks towards me, I will continue to pointlessly argue because it’s fun. So, unless you want to stop I suggest you keep it up.
