Noitu Love 2

Oh yes, it’s finally here! Noitu Love 2 is the very long awaited sequel to the original side-scrolling mighty-morphing action game from Konjak. Hit up the site for both an extended demo version and to purchase the full version online. The forums do seem to list some problems with getting order emails through, which seems mainly to do with PayPal (although it worked for me), so if you can avoid using that then maybe a better plan as there are a number of payment options, but if not I’m sure it’ll probably work out fine anyway.

$20 may seem a little high (edit: according to the comments, this is apparently only the case if you’re a student… bugger…), but I swear on my reputation as the most ‘occasional’ contributor to TIGSource that if you at least give the demo a try you will not be disappointed. And if you have already, then you’re probably too busy clicking the above link to read this. I understand. Do what you must. As well as the main 7-level IGF finalist game, the full version also offers a wealth of unlockable content, including one extra that’s so awesome I swear I’m running my second-playthrough pantless.

Happy gaming TIG!

Let me put it simply. Has the gameplay changed, at all?

  • Zaphos

    For everyone’s favorite machrider:

The game has three characters, who each play with different mechanics (Xoda [who you played in the demo], a gun-based character, and a lightgun-style character (where you play the game as if you had a light gun, and the character you’re controlling just needs to be tossed through the level moved away from harm.) There’s also a shmup-like level, which has a neat mechanic to it (this can be seen briefly in the trailer, as I recall). For the most part, clicking things and dodging other things remains at the core of the game throughout.

  • ugh

I played 10 bucks for Ikaruga (in Hd)…and I will most likely be paying 10 bucks for braid (in HD)…and you expect me to pay twice that for this?

  • ugh

I’m reading these Class A bugs that you guys posted…Looks like none of those 20 bucks went towards hiring qualified QA…oh right…I keep forgetting this is an “Indy game”…nobody hires anybody. Carry on morons.

  • xerus

Its actually “Indie,” unless you’re referring to Dr. Jones.

  • Derek

I’m just a dumb indie gamer, so I’m not sure which class of bugs these belong in:

Let us know, buddy! You’re the video game-making expert!

(And do tell us how much QA cost for this one, too!)

  • gustav

I’m interning as QA right now. Monthly pay is about half of what Joakim has made on NL2 all together.

Joakim told me how he found some to be impossible to reproduce. I never found any collision bugs for example, even though i played the game quite thoroughly.

Unlike “professional” games (atleast the one’s i’ve tried in alpha stage), bugs don’t come up and slap you in the face.
Some guys have been testing this game i’m testing thoroughly every day for over a year and still i find bugs that heavily affect the gameplay or crash the game completely. Professional games in my experience are general bug-fests and still they don’t turn out even half as good NL2.

  • Bezzy

Just wanted to add my voice to this comments thread, saying how bloody impressed I am by this game. As soon as I get my home pc back, I’m so on this.

But then I see a couple of snipes from ugh, and I start to wonder what the chances are that he’s used the price point, as well as any other lame excuses, as a way to justify warezing this game.

“Ohh, people give indie games too much slack” – well, no shit fuckwad. Indies don’t (typically) have any financial security. They’re making these games without a safety net, and more importantly,**bold** despite **bold**shit poos bitching about how they could buy 5 overpriced coffees with the same amount of money being asked for.

    More power to you, konjak.

  • Bezzy

I have clearly misinterpreted the markup scheme.

  • slang

OK, thanks to Xander’s advice I now got past level 4…level 5 was pretty straight forward but then at level 6 it happens again. What the hell am I supposed to do now?! Knock the ball thingy around so it explodes on top of the boss? Seriously, I’ve played the shit out of games like Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier and Iwanaga but none of them were as confusing and frustrating as this. Also, loosing sight of the crosshair due to the overkill of colors doesn’t necessarily help.

  • Kongming

Damn, I don’t know how people can get so angry and bitchy about a hobby that’s supposed to be FUN.

  • Zaphos

    Spoiler text for slang:

(I hope I’m thinking of the same boss as you!)

When the boss drops the ball, wait on the opposite side of the tunnel, so the ball falls down next to you. Duck, and wait for it to become electric, and while it’s sparking drop down to the side of the tunnel where the boss is. The ball falls with you, damaging the boss. Repeat 2 times.

(and yeah, this boss confused me too)

  • konjak

I’ve stated before, Treasure wasn’t my inspiration. I like Metal Slug and I like bosses where you have to find weak spots, so it merged.

Also, the game is 0.9 in reservation of bugs, because I can’t pay for professional testers, so you could just sit back until 1.0 arrives.

    Thanks!

  • DaVince

20 dollars IS a bit much for a game like this. Compare to Audiosurf, which goes for 10 euros… I’d pay around 15 for this game at most.

  • slang

    @Zaphos
Yeah, that’s the one. Thanks. Pretty twisted tactic…
    @konjak
Really? Imo it plays and feels like a mixture between Alien Soldier and Gunstar Super Heroes. And a rather good one at that.

  • machrider

That gun based character sounds interesting. Too bad it wasn’t in the demo.

  • Mischief Maker

I’m sorry machrider. I know you didn’t enjoy the demo and that this game is really not for you, but the jackbooted indiegame thugs who have been forcing you to play the demo and read this blog post over and over again will not listen to reason.

You have NO CHOICE but to buy 10 copies of this game, erase and smash the disks of all your other games, set fire to any consoles you may own, quit your job, and spend the rest of your life playing the game over and over again like so much Howard Hughes.

Since your doom is already spelled out in plain letters for you, why do you prolong the suffering by asking whether the rest of the game is like the demo you didn’t like? Of course it is. So buy your copies, hunker down in front of the keyboard, and get it over with. It’s always better to rip a band-aid off rather than slowly peel.

  • Xander

I looked up jackbooted in the dictionary and the first definition was ‘wearing jackboots’

    I probably should’ve guessed that.

  • dustin

“20 dollars IS a bit much for a game like this. Compare to Audiosurf, which goes for 10 euros… I’d pay around 15 for this game at most.”

Audiosurf is also completely contentless and could be made in a weekend. There’s a difference between shell games and content games, and I’d take the latter any day

  • Zaphos

Does it even really matter how much a completely different game costs, or how many man hours it took to create it? Those things don’t really factor in to my decision of whether to buy or not.

I do wonder how much relative price affects buying decisions. For example, I wonder if it would be the case that, if you sold two similar games for $20 each, someone would buy both, but if you sold one for $10 and the other for $20, people would buy only the $10 one, because the existence of the $10 one sets the perception that ‘these games only worth $10.’

  • Wacky Willy

Audiosurf is just Klax mixed with Winamp visualizatons. It’s a neat game but I don’t see it as the ultimate standard by which all indies should be judged/priced.

  • machrider

Mischief Maker, don’t worry. Some day I will release Untitled Game (tentative title) and show everyone how gaming is supposed to be. I just hope we all aren’t dead by then, or that you’re all still into gaming by then, at least.

  • machrider

Charging $20 is a good idea. I should keep that in mind. I need to learn how to draw too and make nice effects on screen. The gameplay doesn’t actually matter that much now that I think of it. I mean, it does. But, who cares about gameplay anymore? lol ¯(°_o)/ ¯

  • machrider

Actually, I’m just kidding. I’m sure the full game is pretty cool and maybe has more variety in the later levels and especially with the other character who uses a gun. But as long as you keep making remarks towards me, I will continue to pointlessly argue because it’s fun. So, unless you want to stop I suggest you keep it up.

  • xerus

Hey, just a few more comments before we max out the tinyint limit on the amount of comments. Yay!

  • Pffft

Get off the mach and get on a diamond.

  • xerus

I think we can all agree on that.

  • Scottedont

I miss games like these. It leaves me wanting more levels and more bosses(last time I checked, thats a good thing). Kudos to Joakim and his accomplishment. People like him and Derek are going to be the ones who save the industry from bloated huge waterfall development games. I can’t stop playing this game! Now I am actually trying to get a wiimote working with it via bluetooth so i can play it on my tv lol.

P.S. Hardest mode w/ Rilo is insane amounts of challenging fun. Thx for this game

  • casual gamer

I would buy this but unfortunately my heroin addiction takes priority. Awesome demo though. :)
