Ad Nauseum 2

Dear cactus has released another shoot ‘em up. Ad Nauseum 2 (direct download) features seizurific special effects, some slightly obscene artwork, and a soundtrack that I’m pretty sure is meant to induce bowel movements. It’s also very easy to die. You have been duly warned.

For those new to cactus, you may want to try out Cactus Arcade (direct download), a collection of 17 of his games, including a handy interface for playing them.

(Thanks a lot for the tip, Bas! And to the various peeps that brought Cactus Arcade to my attention.)

Ran like 2 FPS once I hit something. Quit after 10 seconds, but somehow it seemed like a good idea to make it take 5 seconds to quit once Escape is pressed.

Also, the game errors every now and then (even unzipped).

    Gonna lie down now.

  3. cactus said about 2 hours later:

Yeah, the game requires a pretty decent graphics card. I’d add an option to turn off the motion blur, but there’s not much more than the pretty effects to the game… Err… I mean the game is amazing. You’re really missing out. Or something.

I see why it’s called Ad Nauseum ;)

I’m telling you guys, cactus made this game for me!

Even though it is a lot different from the original, it’s still loads of fun. I really like the shock wave effect that goes on in the game. How the explosions push stuff around and all, really nice.

  6. Shuger said about 3 hours later:

It’s simply awesome, or simple and awesome whatever you prefer ;)

    cactus i love you

  11. Bas said about 5 hours later:

Again, those little twists make a game like this highly original. Briliant game. Very challenging and the graphics are beautiful.

  12. Riegel said about 6 hours later:

    Ow my brain…very fun though.

  13. Mazapán said about 6 hours later:

I’m glad you finished it! :) I really really love this game, that extreme blur effect is pure sex! If only I could beat it, I want to hit that highscorelist :( Kian

  14. Gressmon said about 8 hours later:

Nice motion blur, but the game gets a bit repetitive :(

‘boring game’ really Eclipe ?? really? personaly I loves it! just haven’t yet been able to get to the smutty bits,. On easy I can last for a while on the white ASCII stage,. but alas have not been able to sustain long enouph to clear that,. the maxed out ver. of the ship with the auto guided missles is quite nice and powerfull but the letters keep killing me in the end,. I will be up all night till i beat this danm thing or my mind gives out,.

  16. qnp said about 9 hours later:

Do let us know what it feels like to have a fried mind, in that case. Actually, no need. I shall play the game myself.

  17. Kvalsternacka said about 9 hours later:

This satisfies my need for high speed mass destruction. I see stuff blow up in clouds of pure awesome when I close my eyes…

  18. xerus said about 10 hours later:

Personally I found it to be rather fun, and will make love to Cactus the next time we meet.

  19. Mazapán said about 10 hours later:

I’m playing this the same way I look at magic eye images.

  20. Melly said about 11 hours later:

Beat it on Easy, found the naughty bits. :P

Fun game, if a bit repetitive.

  22. Albert Lai said about 11 hours later:

    My eyes hate me now.

  23. mcbpete said about 11 hours later:

Cor that is one tough little cookie. I can get as far as the white background area but I get destroyed pretty swiftly after that. For some reason the upgrade system reminds me of the game AgentX II for the C64

  24. Jesse said about 13 hours later:

I don’t like shmups very often, also not cactus’s ones, but this one is very addicting. However I keep getting killed by the vermicelli bullets.

I actually liked the slow down when playing on my own pc, but the fast paced-ness, when playing on a better pc, was also a plus.

I love the way the enemies work especially.

  25. Sergio said about 18 hours later:

My eyes hurt so much… and I haven’t even beaten it yet…

  26. juv3nal said about 20 hours later:

It’s very pretty, but I’m absolutely awful at this. I can’t even get more than 3 minutes in on easy. I need a has-the-reflexes-of-a-bar-of-soap mode.

  27. Eclipse said 1 day later:

well it’s a bit laggy on my laptop so was rather boring, also having the same enemies on the screen for an entire level is kinda boring in a shooter. I really liked the effects and the graphics are, as always in newer cactus productions, simply but catchy

  28. teknogames said 5 days later:

    amazing
