Burn the Rope

With so much uncertainty in the world today… sometimes a nice, straightforward video game is exactly what the doctor ordered.

    Great game !!!

  2. BigBossSNK said about 1 hour later:

Too bad it lasts less than the decay period of a subatomic particle in a particle accelerator.

  3. MercuryBlind said about 1 hour later:

I wanted more… but that would defeat the point wouldn’t it…

  4. GirlFlash said about 1 hour later:

I dont get it, I managed to get through the tunnel, but I cant beat the boss, I found the fire and the rope thing thats holding the big thing over the boss… but I dont know what to do. the tiniest hint would help.

damn it I’m going back to playing myst, this is too hard (>.<)

  5. FishyBoy said about 1 hour later:

That was cute. It would be nice to see more.

  6. Anonymous said about 1 hour later:

    Loved the ending song.

  7. Carlz0r said about 1 hour later:

Make sure you have the latest flash player. Otherwise it won’t work right, and it’ll just start playing the ending music as soon as you click start, and you won’t be able to move correctly.

  8. MisterX said about 2 hours later:

Am I right in guessing that the whole point of the game is to have a “Still Alive”-ish ending song for a video game? :D Anyway, quite nice none the less. Even though there were only about 60 seconds of gameplay it shows that an ending summing up what you’ve done throughout the game and the outcome of it works nicely. Although I guess it’s quite obvious that this is better than some kind of “You made it! Congratulations! Now have fun with the main menu again!”. Neat song :)

  9. BreadCultist said about 2 hours later:

    I cried.

Would like an mp3 of the song!

  10. Chris said about 2 hours later:

I had my wife try this. Unfortunately, she found the platforming very difficult so it pretty much neutralized the humor. She’s really good at 2D console platformers like Super Mario World, and passable at Super Mario Galaxy, so I was really surprised.

I think it’s kind of interesting how a small change in the input method ruined the game for her. It almost justifies the rampant cloning in the casual games industry–they don’t want to alienate their (paying) audience.

  11. raelz said about 2 hours later:

I guess this is the only game with walktrough longer than the actual game.

Good point MisterX, but although this looks kinda like portal rip-off, we all know the truth..

    Cavestory ripoff!!

  12. BreadCultist said about 2 hours later:

mp3 was linked on the page http://www.reachground.se/2008/03/31/you-have-to-burn-the-rope/ woo

AWESOME game… truly amazing credit song… just something so catch about it I played it about 6 times.

  19. robolee said about 4 hours later:

Also if anyone is serious about the whole not being able to kill the boss then there is something seriously wrong with you… the whole “burn the rope, weapons don’t hurt the boss”

but it seems that they are all joking…

  20. Gauss said about 5 hours later:

    The rope is a lie!

  35. Reachground said about 9 hours later:

I’m so annoyed right now. Mr Kian AKA Mazapan let’s me create the music right? Well that might be so but I still don’t understand how to beat the game. And don’t point me to some tutorial-walkthrough-crap. I did them. Still no clue ):

  36. Reachground said about 10 hours later:

    Ahhh…I get it…you just…

    …no! Still nothing.

  37. Genisi said about 10 hours later:

Man, that game was hard. I’ve managed to beat games like Cave Story and Super Mario World with ease, but this is impossible. How the hell do you kill that last boss?!

  38. Yugge said about 10 hours later:

  43. BOb said about 12 hours later:

I’m detecting hints of shadow of the colossus as well as portal.

  44. seth said about 12 hours later:

this is the best game i have ever played

  45. Mosh said about 13 hours later:

That song was better then the body of Mike Patton’s work combined.

    Game should’ve been 30x length.

  46. smirnoff said about 13 hours later:

“Soviet Russia” jokes stopped being funny approximately 2 hours before they were created.

  47. Radnom said about 14 hours later:

but wow… those 2 hours were a blast!

  48. Dusty Spur said about 15 hours later:

The tragedies that happen every day, right under our noses… that rope’s never gonna get another chance at life. That rope’s never gonna get another chance at holding up that ominous chandelier. That rope’s never gonna get his life back. And it’s all our fault.

  49. whocare said about 16 hours later:

sob what’s about chandelier? it victim too

  50. Melly said about 17 hours later:

Well damn, I had so much fun throwing those axes. The physics and collision on them were so advanced! Too bad they’re useless.

Afterall, there is nothing in life that can’t be solved by burning it with fire.

  51. Mekanik said about 20 hours later:

This has got to be a joke. It’s not terribly cool at all.

  52. Eclipse said about 21 hours later:

@GIRLFLASH you have to burn the rope! well, you have to take one of the flames, jump up above the platforms quickly before the flame disappear and then jump against the rope.

Anyway this game was pretty nice, too bad is a joke game, i’d love to see it with more levels

  53. Eclipse said about 21 hours later:

    you are the smartest person

  59. beijing said 1 day later:

At first I felt a bit shortchanged when the game finished so quickly, but I also felt a sense of satisfaction, boosted by the ending song. Perhaps that is the simple goal of the designer, to give players a sense of satisfaction with very little work? Casual games try at this all the time but none are quite as satisfying as the ending of You Have to Burn the Rope.

  66. mr said 5 days later:

So Roger Ebert said that video games could never be classified as art, and I guess he’s entitled to his opinion. As this game proves, however, they can sometimes be classified as fairly decent comedy. :)
