Diamond Rider

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (May 10, 2006) – RomeoPie Software® of America, Inc. and RomeoPie Software Europe Ltd. today announced the long-anticipated return of Diamond Rider™, a fan favorite since its original release in 1989. Developed exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Diamond Rider marks the first project from the recent acquisition of San Francisco-based studio, Drip Dry Software.

Diamond Rider delivers action-RPG thrills as a small band of Riders embark on an epic adventure to recruit allies, expose the enemy and prevent the annihilation of their breed. Delivering an intense and unique combat experience, players charge into battle on the backs of ferocious beasts or take their chances with the enemy while on foot. Fighting skill, wits and even magic are all called into action as players immerse themselves in the struggle to defeat an evil intent on enslaving the remains of civilization.

“Diamond Rider is one of our most treasured brands and is a complete re-imagining of the story that will take gamers on an unforgettable journey,” said Kyle Pulver, Vice President of Marketing, RomeoPie Software of America, Inc. “The vision we have for the remake of Diamond Rider is nothing short of remarkable and it can only be realized on the PlayStation 3 system and Xbox 360.”

    wtf?

  2. trav said 18 minutes later:

the Vice president of marketing makes me feel the sleaze HARD IN THE FACE! It’s total hype machine.

in addition a “complete re-imagining of the story” means they’ve copied the name and maybe taken a few pointers on the art direction, but your original game is gone forever

  3. Mekanik said 20 minutes later:

Is that a “readme” in photoshop format? Brilliant.

  4. Essoje said 35 minutes later:

I’d go as far to say that it’s the best game I’ve ever played. The amount of freedom you can have in this game and free-form playing can gives you a different ending each time.

… of course, this is all a lie, but I just love how this prank was done.

  5. BMcC said about 1 hour later:

    This game got me pregnant.

  6. Skibs said about 1 hour later:

Would anyone out there think less of me if I managed a score in the quadruple digits?

  7. BMcC said about 1 hour later:

We would erect a shrine in your honor.

  8. Noyb said about 1 hour later:

Is that an old skool Klik and Play Romeo vs. the Pie Devil allusion? Props. And I can’t believe I had the drive to beat the game, and that it actually had a concrete goal and solution.

  9. I Like Cake said about 2 hours later:

This game made me get Brandon pregnant.

  10. JP said about 2 hours later:

Holy crap, three different colored books with what appears to be a leather strap tied around them? WHAT ENGINE DOES THIS GAME USE?!?!?!?

  11. frosty said about 2 hours later:

Meh, I’m going to wait until it hits version 5.7a before trying this.

  12. Sergio said about 2 hours later:

Who made the music? And what does it sound like played backwards?

  13. Sergio said about 3 hours later:

I finished it, quite fun once you get the hang of it. It’s kind of annoying that you have to land on the ground before your 1200+ score is acknowledged, and you should probably be able to press OK on the end screen…

    In short: GOTY.

  14. TakaM said about 4 hours later:

the ®’s and ™’s make me sad :(

  15. Genisi said about 5 hours later:

    WHAT.

  16. Mr E said about 6 hours later:

We are all just so clever in these parts. hur hur.

  17. Fishy Boy said about 8 hours later:

Eh, it’s a blatant Cave Story rip off.

  18. GirlFlash said about 8 hours later:

    …EPIC!

  19. RyanA said about 8 hours later:

SHAWT THRU THE HEART! And you’re too late, you give loooooove. A bad name.

  20. Hunty said about 9 hours later:

This is one of those GDC jokes that those of us who aren’t at GDC right now don’t get, isn’t it?

  21. kloi said about 10 hours later:

HAR DE HAR DE HARR i hate you.

  22. JakeDrake said about 10 hours later:

    TOO EASY

  23. Oob said about 11 hours later:

    It’s no Pillar Killer.

  24. Jad said about 11 hours later:

    I won!

It has monocles, it’s the first game with monocles that I have played in a 100 years.

    GOTY

  25. Skofo said about 15 hours later:

Nice to know that TIGS cares about their credibility.

  26. Kenzya said about 16 hours later:

Credibility? You’re just being a dick now.

  27. Anonymous said about 17 hours later:

There is no other way to say it… Simply the greatest game ever.

  28. Fishy Boy said about 18 hours later:

I have reason to suspect you stole the 2nd paragraph from the new Golden Axe they’re making. Why would they ruin Golden Axe in this horrible manner? WHY!?

  29. DrRetard said about 19 hours later:

sounds like a bunch of smoke & flowery words

  30. Voodoo Master said about 20 hours later:

Wow. I’ll be buying this one when it comes out! And apparently it’s going to be an MMORPG!

Of course, the artistic sense of it will be sucked out. Perhaps they can stay true to their original spirit, because the original is definitely better than anything they’ll come out with ever again.

And I remember Romeo vs. The Pie Devil. And the other games that came with Klik n Play… I hated that software. It didn’t allow much freedom at all.

But THIS game! It’s open-endedness in a box! With diamonds and wonderful gameplay, inspired soundtrack… oh I could go on forever!

  31. Tantan said about 21 hours later:

Romeo vs. The Pie Devil is what started the “games as art” movement.

  32. Movius said about 21 hours later:

I think this is a bit highbrow for TIGSource

  33. BeamSplashX said about 24 hours later:

TIGSource has owlbrows. No implants here!

  34. BeamSplashX said 1 day later:

    Also:

    GotC (Century)

  35. anon said 1 day later:

Does anyone have an ETA on when the self indulgent nonsense that has overtaken this site will be over?

  36. Xotes said 1 day later:

Sadly, my friend, we do not.
