YoYo Games: Winter Competition
Posted by Derek Yu Mon, 12 Nov 2007 10:45:00 GMT
YoYo Games (the Game Maker community headed by GM creator Mark Overmars) is holding their first competition, and the theme is “winter.” Any Game Maker game with a wintery theme can be entered to vie for the $1750 in cash prizes ($1000 for first place).
The deadline is December 23rd, at midnight!
And I hear cactus might be throwing his hat into the ring for this one…
Edit: Turns out that only Game Maker 6.0 or above is allowed. Thanks, Trotim!

I also heard rumors that Paul Eres aka. RinkuHero might also participate. That’s gonna be a one high quality competition.
I’ll try to do something. Should have plenty of time during Thanksgiving and Christmas break.
I also heard rumors that Donald Duck aka. Lazrael might also participate. But he might have been joking.
PS. I want a thousand dollars.
If you write a half-decent free game on a winter theme, and release it before Christmas, you’ll make $1000 in sales, ad revenue or sponsorships - and you won’t be depending on the whim of some judge.
Where do you find these sponsors or generous ad offerings?
Wonderland, obviously.
Might participate if I come up with an awesome enough idea. I like winter themes.
I look forward to “Schwarze Punkt In Der Weisslucke”. Get to it, Movius!
agh. i would love to do something… damn gamemaker community and your gamemakiness
Sounds intriguing.
I might enter too. If WoW, Roach Toaster 2 and the holiday doesn’t get in they way. :P
Woah tiggersauce. nice
TIGERSauce, that is. :P The change was so subtle I barely noticed it.
“Any Gamemaker” is not true, you can only use GM6.0 which is a pain in the butt for those, who still haven’t gotten used to it (since it doesn’t have any new or better features apart from the Vista support nobody needs anyway)
To be even more nitpicky, GM7 is the version that works with Vista, and GM6 was before Yoyo Games stepped in. GM6 added lots of new features, such as 3d,and GM7 got an amazing new feature: Orange is now a constant for use with various drawing functions. Best feature ever. The 6.0 or above thing still remains, though.
Ugh, I can see why first prize is so good. If you can actually make a good game in GM without going completely insane, you deserve $1000.
yeah i agree, GM sucks and the few good games are nothing special too, the real indie scene is not the GM one
Loool… well there are a few gamemaker-made indie gems out there for sure, but generally speaking I guess I would agree. Still.. with the right attitude and skills even gamemaker is good enough to make an excellent game with.
