Classic: Marshmallow Duel

Marshmallow Duel

Man, Marshmallow Duel is a blast from the past… and it really was a blast, as I recall. This two-player platform deathmatch game is quick and oh so much fun. Even though it pales in comparison to heartier games like Liero and Soldat, it’s still good for a some laughs. Power-ups like “1000 Volts,” “Invisibility,” and “Mine” coupled with the great collision “physics” made this one a cult classic of DOS shareware. And now there’s an Unreal Tournament mod and a DS version? Crazy.

You may need DOSBox (worked for me on XP, though).

These little two-player duel games were awesome, and I used to love making my own ones. Their greatness is in their simplicity, but nowadays they aren’t even worth releasing since people will bitch and bitch and bitch if there’s no netplay… which kind of defeats the point.

I miss the days when people had IRL friends.

I do play local multiplayer games and I assure you there’s more of us. ;) Two-player games have one slight disadvantage though: they get quite impractical when you’re trying to entertain two or more friends at a time. I still consider Mduel one of the best (better than Liero) because of the solid, “fair” basic gameplay, well spiced with random maps and power-ups.

I remember this game. I used to play this and Jump N’ Bump with my buddies all the time. The main reason netplay sucks, is that you can’t punch your buddy in the arm if he kills you.

    Oh man!

    I remember this!

I used to play this all the time with my brother! We became experts!

I always thought I was one of the very few people who ever knew this game existed.
