Hmm. I haven’t played the darn thing yet (using UP to jump? not in my book) so I really can’t tell, but I’m looking forward to some day actually geeking out a lot and get my La-Mulana on. Or something.

  3. BenH said 43 minutes later:

Good lord! There’s a new arsecast for me to listen to once I return home from food shopping!

“using UP to jump? not in my book”

There’s a button titled ‘2nd UP’ - set it to whatever you want to use as a jump button.

  5. Akhel said about 2 hours later:

    Cave Story > La-Mulana

  6. PoV said about 3 hours later:

    La Story Cave Mulana

  7. ptoing said about 3 hours later:

I concur. La-Mulana IS nice, but Cave Story has more atmosphere (imo) and is more accessible (fact).

  8. BenH said about 4 hours later:

I enjoy oranges AND apples! ..actually thats a lie, I hate apples.

  9. Discombobulated Jellyfish said about 6 hours later:

La Mulana is an excellent title. It’s not as easy to jump into as cave story. As there is no hand to guide you from the beginning. You mus figure out where you’re going, how the weight system works, how to save, and what exactly the plot is. This all comes over pretty easy in the instruction manual. BUT provides no real point of direction in the game. You get a not so warm welcome from the village elder and then a swift kick in the ass into the game, where you will probably curse repeatedly, die over and over, and swear never to play this game again.

  10. Stwelin said about 7 hours later:

You got my hopes up, i thought arsecast 8 might have come out. curse you TIGS.

  11. Stwelin said about 7 hours later:

Scratch that, i am an idiot.

  12. Stwelin said about 7 hours later:

It didn’t appear on the sidebar, (the first place i look, always) so i was like “wtf”

Anyway, listening now. hum hum da-dum.

  13. Shih Tzu said about 7 hours later:

Once invoked, the curse cannot be uncast without the blood of a virgin.

  14. PoV said about 7 hours later:

No problem. You’re surrounded by computer geeks. :P

  15. haowan said about 8 hours later:

probably a fair few selfharmers too.

  16. Shinji16 said about 15 hours later:

    “La-Mulana > Cave Story”?

    BLASPHEMY!!!

  17. BigBossSNK said about 17 hours later:

No Blasphemy. La Mulana is “Raiders of the Lost Ark” to Cave story’s “Jurassic Park”. Sure, Jurassic Park has better effects and equally deep plot and mechanics, but you just can’t beat that gruff, gut punching feeling you get from old Indy.

  18. J.B. said about 23 hours later:

    La-Mulana > Cave Story

as long as the “>” is measuring unplayability.

  19. people seriously said 1 day later:

are you seriously arguing about whether cave story or la-mulana is a better game i mean come on now

  20. pkt-zer0 said 1 day later:

“are you seriously arguing about whether cave story or la-mulana is a better game i mean come on now”

SHUT UP. You cannot possibly begin to understand the importance of this!

    La-Mulana > Cave Story

  21. ssfsx17 said 1 day later:

Although the controls of LA-MULANA took a little getting used to, I eventually realized that they are totally deterministic and fair. Also, the atmosphere and story totally had me hooked when I saw… . spoilers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . maidens jumping to their gooey, splattery death in order that their blood feed a big sub-boss.

  22. Smithy said 1 day later:

La Mulana and cave story are the secretly same exact game! It’s all a conspiracy!

  23. Fishy Boy said 1 day later:

Really, though, comparing La Mulana and Cave Story only works on some levels. There are some very different dynamics, like how Cave Story has a loose control scheme and all of it’s weapons are ranged, whereas La Mulana has a more rigid sytem, and many weapons are melee. These things may seem minor, but they affect alot of the game. (Also, there may be ranged weapons in La Mulana, but I don’t play the game that much, because the patch won’t work, so there are probably tons of ranged weapons I haven’t seen.) Still, they are both good games in their own way, but it really is like comparing Gradius and Starfox 64, they may both feature space fighting on a set path, but seemingly little core mechanics seperate them greatly.

  24. Smithy said 1 day later:

    GRADIUS > STARFOX64!!!

  25. Optrirominiluikus said 1 day later:

    Civilization IV > Tetris

    …and yes, today when I started playing La-Mulana, I saw the 2nd UP option. Dualshock2 + La-Mulana = Dualshock2 + every other game.
