Defcon Going Retail in the U.S.

NextGen is reporting that Defcon, Introversion’s multiplayer nuclear war game, is heading to U.S. retail:
“US publisher Encore will be responsible for bringing the well-reviewed title stateside, and has ordered an initial 50K copies of the game for retail. It will sell for $29.99.
The game, branded as “the world’s first genocide-’em-up,” is also currently available to download on Valve’s Steam digital distribution service for $14.95.”
And as much as I respect Introversion for what they do, I wish they’d stop marketing themselves as “the first” and “the last” of things. Because when you hear that “the last of the bedroom programmers” has created “the world’s first genocide-’em-up,” it is slightly disrespectful to 1. all the bedroom programmers that come after them, and 2. Nuclear War!

Will anybody please think about the bedrooms!?
And besides, do they even work from bedrooms anymore? Last I heard they had a team of 8 or something, and probably some sort of office space or gathering area.
I think I’d prefer to work from my bedroom just for the enjoyment of not having my creative juices clogged by overly constricting and contextually unnecessary pants.
The Defcon guys do seem to get a little ahead of themselves, but I suppose if you’re going to try and sell yourself into the world of retail gaming you do feel inclined to release the PR equivalent of a wonder bra. Although having said that, I can’t really see the business sense in asking people to pay twice the price other people paid for the same game that was released months ago.
$29.99 ?
they think of themselves as the last new, but to me they are the new last.
An interesting price. The only way to win is not to pay.
Nuclear War! Valid point. Man, that was un. Was there ever a hotseat mode in NW?

Both programmed by the same coder as GTW.
Whoops. Radioactive can be found here:

Odly enough I was in Frys Electronics yesterday and swear I saw it on shelves already. I didn’t give a second thought to why it would be on shelves in a store, I just thought how it was odd their box looked different from mine :P
OMG, finally an opportunity to dig up the corpse of my first game: http://www.gametunnel.com/gamespace.php?id=150&tab=3
I went retail, too. Only my publisher decided the game should cost 50 cents from a Russian street vendor rather than go for an expensive American release.
