The Big Adventure of Owata's Life

You’ve played distracting and irritating games. Now why don’t you give a brutal game a try. Never before has ASCII art been so cruel.

Here’s a YouTube video that demonstrates many of the ends by which Owata can die and 2 ways to “beat” the game and then die.

Happy Valentine’s!

Reminds me of my first time playing ninja gaiiden…

Haha, great find, man! I dig the style.

I think you need Japanese text support for the game to look right, by the way.

I apparently see that this is being posted ‘12 minutes from now’

and I really suck at this game, though I guess that’s the point! Great video

it took me about 50 tries to get past the first screen. after that, cake.

    mmm, cake.

The humor in this is great. It shows how many expectations we have about the way platform game worlds should behave.

moi – you can go right, left, up, or down from the first screen. I think the video shows you how. … not that the screens that follow will be more satisfying, in particular …

LOL! This was the funniest shit ever! Forget about hard games, this is pure evil! I doubt many people will finish this even with knowing the 1001 ways you can (and will) die.

  14. mook said about 18 hours later:

lmfao, some games are hard accidentally because the developer has played it too much while creating it or has overestimated the players skill. this is just sinister.

  15. Cycle said about 18 hours later:

Like one of the other posters, I actually found this to be pretty easy once I got past the first screen. The game became less clever and more predictable, but it was still a cute little game that pokes fun at platform conventions.

  16. Cycle said about 18 hours later:

If you REALLY want to remember how hard and unforgiving games used to be, the best way is to play those games.

    Like this one right here.

Manic Miner isn’t hard and unforgiving!

    Now, Rick Dangerous…

  18. Cycle said 1 day later:

    Rick Dangerous was totally easier!

Also, there isn’t a flash version of that so I had to settle for Miner either way.

  19. Moshboy said 1 day later:

    Umm yes there is:

And I reckon Rick is harder too.

  20. BMcC said 1 day later:

Let’s settle this once and for all!

  21. Sergio said 1 day later:

This Owata game is obviously harder than both!

    …In my opinion… :(

  22. Cycle said 1 day later:

After playing Rick Dangerous again, I concede that it is indeed harder.

But only because it’s stupid. Owata gave more clues than this game does!

  23. Derek said 2 days later:

This is going to be a highly recommended game. ^_^
