La Mulana Translated to English
Posted by Derek Yu Sat, 27 Jan 2007 16:11:00 GMT
La Mulana, the sprawling platformer that bears a resemblence to the old MSX game Maze of Galious, finally has an English translation thanks to Aeon Genesis:
“The game is huge, with many different areas to explore and dozens of items and weapons to find. Each area has a large variety of puzzles and traps (many of them quite fiendish) and you need to solve the puzzles in each area to discover the Ankhs and Ankh Jewels, which allow you to fight the eight Guardians of the ruins. To solve the puzzles you’ll need to be able to read the tablets scattered throughout the ruins, which will require a Hand Scanner and translation software for the portable MSX that Lemeza has brought along on the adventure. Your Hand Scanner will also allow you to find items and search the bones of less fortunate adventurers.”
The game and the patch can be downloaded together from the AGTP site.
EDIT: FYI, the patch also translates the manual, included with the game!

Bah! Patch not out till weekend! Graham sad! :’(
Graham sad? Well, well.
The plot thickens. And that’s not all. ;)
Thickens? How so?
The patch is actually here now! Whups!
Lengthwise?
fucking long, like me.
Erm, I still see no patch. What’s the matter? Taken down already?
Excellent news anyway, finally translated. I remember when I found La-Mulana and the talking started at the HOTU forums. Now that I think of it, I started seeing more interest for the game since then…

You are dumb.
I cry every day i dont see news on Limbo….. I could never get into this type of game, the graipichs just rub me the wrong way. Ill give it a try anyhow
Yes, now it’s there, but I’m not dumb. Before refreshing one minute ago (and I did it lots of times before), there was no patch. Thanks anyway :)
Woah, deja vu. ;)
sweet, another kick ass find. i’ll try it out tomorrow
This game is awesome. Get it.
It’s harsh as fuck though.
I tried playing Maze of Galious a while ago. I hope La-Mulana is better about giving you hints on what the items are supposed to do.
I hop eit’s actually working this time ;)
Finally!
nearly as hard as http://blog53.fc2.com/k/king75/file/owata.html
Awesome, been waitin’ for this!
Reading the manual is critical – what an obtuse game.
And by obtuse I mean abstruse, of course. Sorry, English language!
anyone know how to solve that star, moon, sun puzzle in the giants area? i don’t usually do this but it’s driving me insane!
Gah! You’re way further than me! I’ve only completed a few puzzles in the main area and about one in the Egypty area. Is there a walkthrough anywhere for this game? :P
lol, i’m not sure whether i outta jump for joy that i’m not alone or just run into a corner cos noone knows :[
the giants area is connected to the 1st level. try exploring the bottom left of the map.
already tried googling a walkthru. no luck. i’m pretty sure there are some forums that give out some hints, but those are in jap.
As others have said: this game is brutal. This has tricks and traps at every turn, with countless ways to use and interact with them. However, as the authors have stated in the manual, that was their intent and is really what makes this worth playing.
That said, I haven’t died this many times in a game since I last played nethack.
The manual is another nice touch. There’s just something about seeing the entire inventory of the game laid out over four pages that makes you want to jump in.
I can’t run the translation patch, when trying to run the patch, it give the error “\grahpics\thumbs.db: unknown version”, can anyone help please.
I’ve been told on another forum where we’re discussing this that you can get the grail very early on which should alleviate a lot of dead-end woes as you’ll realise if you read it’s function in the manual. :)
I shall be grabbing it this lunchtime.
Yes, khuhwftctn, I quite agree. :P
The plot has thickened even more!
@bio: \when you opened the graphics folder in WinXP it created a hidden file called thumbs.db in the directory that you need to get rid of. It’s a file that windows uses to show preview pics of images. Just copy the files (minus thumbs.db) to a new directory, delete the old one, and name the new one “graphics.” Run the patch again.

Nice link, Moi! Ta’.
Don’t… know… what… to… click… first!
SO where can I found the hidden shop in hall of guidance? The japanese walkthrough says it’s in the room with the shield and sword but I can’t find it.
Can somebody delete the spam posts too?
Spam makes the baby Mario cry. :’(
wow, u rock moi. i swear, after reading through that guide i’d never be able to finish this game. ever. can’t believe how cryptic the puzzles are.
i’m sure u’ve found it by now, but i think the hidden shop is activated by touching that emblem thingy on the wall, but u need the corresponding seal first. it opens a passage to the next screen over where u can find the hidden shop.
just finished the Tower of the Goddess, ‘phew’.
for the record the japanese walkthrough is there: http://la-mulana.s13.xrea.com/x/index.html
Babelfish doesn’t help a lot :)
english versions of the maps are here http://files.myopera.com/White%20Knell/lamulanaguide/LA-MULANAGuide.html
I hope someone still read this. How can I obtain the knife in the pyramid of sun? walkthrough says to send a shuriken on the statue head that I cannot access and step on a switch that I cannot acces either.
gotta jump up and throw the shuriken. there’s a gap between ceiling and that brick wall which is enough space to throw shuriken.
Wow, why didn’t I think about that? Many thanks!!
